This book just hit the stores and my bookshelf, and I read it immediately. It was excellent. You should read it, too.

In this day and age, it's hard to expand on the Darth Vader character or the Star Wars universe - there are literally millions of pages of authorized and unauthorized Star Wars lore, most of it revolving around it's most intriguing hero: Darth Vader. Yes, I said hero; call him an anti-hero, if you like, an accidental hero, a reluctant hero, the worst "hero" imaginable - your choice. Nevertheless, the Star Wars universe doesn't exist without him, and Haden Blackman gives us more of what makes the galaxy far, far away tick.

The story is deceptive; it will trick you. It does what only Darth Vader can do so perfectly, so quietly, and then suddenly so viciously - it gives you hope; it makes you want something, and then when you've given in and accepted it and taken it on board, our hero reaches in and rips your heart out in the only way he can: mercilessly. It can't be easy to add to the Dark Lord's legend or make him seem even more than he is, but Hayden Blackman does. He gives us what we have always craved, a devilishly brief insight into that time between the rise of the Empire (post Revenge of the Sith) and the beginning of its end (pre A New Hope), one that endangers every element of the fledgling Empire and brings forth new legends and old foes. And then, in the end, we are reminded that what we hoped for is futile and Darth Vader is the hero that we all love to fear.

Great story, great lines and ink - the action sequences are crisp and powerful, as is even line of the Dark Lord. If you heard this was going to be good; you heard right.
