Overview

Imagine: the first Star Wars book that actually moves, bringing to life the most memorable scenes from the epic: Obi-Wan battles Darth Maul The Millennium Falcon zooms away from an exploding Death Star Luke rides a galloping Tauntaun, Yoda twirls his green lightsaber, Boba Fett blasts up, up and away! And of course the most memorable scene of all—red and blue lightsabers flashing, Luke and Darth Vader fight the ultimate battle between good and evil.

It’s a marriage made in a galaxy far, far away: phenomenal Scanimation meets Star Wars, the enduring epic that’s sold $42 billion in ticket sales and earned the title #1 Boys Action Toy License of all time. Created by Rufus Butler Seder, Star Wars: A Scanimation Book presents 12 of the most memorable scenes, in a landscape, i.e., movie format. It’s an homage from an artist obsessed with the earliest forms of capturing visual motion to an artist obsessed with the most advanced. But that’s not what young fans will care about—this is having pure movie magic in the palm of your hand, to replay again and again.

Rufus Butler Seder is an optical genius whose first significant invention was Lifetiles, glass-walled murals that appear to come to life when the viewer walks by. He’s installed them at the Smithsonian, SeaWorld, Union Station, and other museums, aquariums, train stations, and ocean liners around the world. Next came Scanimation, and his company EyeThink, Inc., a business that produces a line of toys and gifts using technologies he’s invented. Mr. Seder lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

I saw this book in the store and just knew my Star Wars fan would love it. It is an incredible book with an animated appeal. Great for all ages.

This is one of six books in the Rufus Butler Seder scanimation series along with Gallop, Kick, Swing, Waddle and Wizard of Oz. I expect there will be other movie themed books as these are particularly entertaining. This scanimation book is one of my favourites as it contains brightly coloured scanimation pictures and actual quotes from the film. The pictures move by opening and closing the book carefully. A bit like the flicker books you used to get where you can move a man or a horse by flicking several pictures of the man/horse to get them to move but scanimation is alot classier. These books are great for children and adults who are young at heart. Everyone who has seen this book at my house has been wowed (adults and children alike)
