Overview

More than twenty-five years after the groundbreaking movie Star Wars: A New Hope first hit the silver screen, Star Wars remains one of the most beloved sagas ever told. Together, the three original Star Wars movies–A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi–told one epic: a heroic tale of innocence lost and wisdom gained, of downfall and redemption, of the never-ending fight between the forces of good and evil. Read the story of the movies–all three in one trade paperback volume–and rediscover the wonder of the legend that begins:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . .

Luke Skywalker lived and worked on his uncle’s farm on the remote planet of Tatooine, but he yearned to travel beyond the farthest reaches of the universe to distant, alien worlds. Then Luke intercepted a cryptic message from a beautiful, captive princess . . . and found himself catapulted into the adventure of a lifetime.

Luke Skywalker, proud Princess Leia, and headstrong Han Solo . . . merciless Darth Vader, wise Obi-Wan Kenobi, loyal droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, and the inscrutable Yoda . . . Chewbacca the Wookiee, shifty Lando Calrissian, and the vile Jabba the Hutt . . . all the vivid characters from the Star Wars universe spring to life in these thrilling pages.

The Star Wars Trilogy is a must-read for anyone who wants to relive the excitement, the magic, and the sheer entertainment of this legendary saga–now and forever.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The three novelizations of the original Star Wars trilogy each sold millions of copies. In honor of Star Wars'-or technically Episode IV: A New Hope-silver anniversary, Ballantine has released this handsome three-in-one hardcover edition sporting a cover by conceptual artist Ralph McQuarrie, who greatly influenced the look of the films, e.g., Vader's mask was his idea. Though Star Wars might seem like geek fan boy stuff, creator Lucas (all the novels are based on his initial treatments for the scripts) does use proven literary motifs: a coming-of-age story as well as a search for a father figure, with a talisman (daddy Darth's lightsaber) linking the generations, it is most importantly about redemption. Each of the novels also includes an introduction by Lucas. A quarter-century later, millions of fans worldwide remain ravenous for all things from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away; the new films rake in zillions, and print titles in the "expanded universe" (characters/plots not covered on-screen) are widely read. This volume should do well. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

I remember the day I bought this book I was 14 years old now I am 21 and I can truthfully say I have read this collection over a hundred times. I have read this book so much that the binding is starting too break down. It has the three classic STAR WARS moives in this collection (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back(my absoulet favorite) and The Return of The Jedi.) When I read this book i can vision what is happening, feel the excitment of flying in the cockpit of the Millienum Falcon with Han and Chewie, feel Luke's sorrow when he finds out Vader is his father and the truth Obi Wan tells him how he must kill his father to save the galaxy, and be as couragoues as Princess Leia on the Endor Moon. I truelly love the classics and the way it is written is brillantly done. Great Detail and dialouge make you feel like you are really there. My Only regret is that I read this book so fast I was done in no time, so I read it again highlighting my favorite parts. Whoever buys tihs book are in truely for a ride of adventure... Enjoy....

After my mom got me hooked on the movies, I HAD to go back and read the books. Now I can go back and find conversations in the movies that I didn't notice at first. My mom now wishes she had NEVER shown us those movies!

Love the original trilogy, this book may even be better than the movies. Loved the extra content in here.

Well, first i didn't know about actually reading about the movies. I thought it would be cool but there are SOOO many star wars books i didn't know which one to read first. I enjoyed EMPIRE STRIKES BACK the best. The reason i gave it four stars is because i dont know why they used the 'D word' so much. They don't in the movies! I would recommend it but...stick with the movies for a great thrill.

I really love Star Wars, but I'm trying to figure out why the trilogy and the prequels aren't available as Nookbooks when several of the Star Wars universe are. Please make the original Star Wars trilogy and the prequel trilogy available as Nookbooks soon. This is one of the reasons I bought my Nook. I'm running out of shelf space for all the Star Wars books I own and would like to be able to read them when I travel without having to lug a bunch of hardcopies with me.

I had bought a few of these Leatherbound Classics on Amazon in the UK and they were fantastic, so I thought to look on the Barnes and Noble site itself and found many titles not available in Britain! I am definitely a fan of Star Wars (who isn't?) so adding this volume which is not available in the UK as far as I can tell, was inevitable. The cover feels just as great as all the other Leatherbound Classics, but the pages are gilded in silver, not gold like the rest. A minor niggle which will not prevent me from enjoying the book. This edition comes with a poster stuck in the back cover which annoyed me as I had to be very careful when pulling it off so I would not damage the inside back cover. Luckily I managed it without any tearing. I was also very impressed with the delivery service here to the United Kingdom. I ordered this on the 3rd May and got it delivered on the 9th! When I ordered it said I could be waiting until the 24th May! Much faster delivery than I expected from the US so well done for that!

The poster size is actually 14" x 21," not 21" x 32" as advertised. Still a fantastic edition though.
