Overview

A four-CD compilation released in 1993, this Arista package is a great, inexpensive way of obtaining all three soundtracks from the original Star Wars trilogy -- Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi -- with outtakes, expanded cues, and a colorful booklet touching upon all facets of John Williams's unforgettable music. While the sound is cleaned up a bit from the original soundtrack releases, the highlight of the box-set is clearly the amount of extra tracks that you can't find anywhere else (not even on the remastered "Special Edition" packages). Included among the goodies are film source tracks and a fourth disc exclusively devoted to outtakes and alternate versions of various cues from the Trilogy. The colorful, extensive booklet provides in-depth examination of Williams's classic compositions, including comparisons between the soundtrack recordings and their film version counterparts. Highly recommended.

All Music Guide - Bruce Eder
This quadruple-CD set corrects a multitude of sonic sins that were evident in the original CD release of the Star Wars soundtrack and its sequels. It's also a veritable festival of John Williams' music from the George Lucas trilogy, a total-immersion experience in Williams' boldest 19th century-style body of music, and for those with that preference, it's a unique experience. The mastering is impeccable, the sound quality amazing, and the annotation very thorough, although one does wish at times that a more objective voice were heard from in the notes -- Williams' work here was superb, to be sure, but it was also highly derivative of a brace of late-19th century and early-20th century composers from the concert hall, and one would love to see this acknowledgement somewhere amid the celebration of the music. Since the release of this set, there have been even more ambitious compilations of Williams' music from these movies assembled, encompassing his scoring for the revised versions of the movies, but this box has a certain unity and purity to it, as the assembly of the music that he wrote for the movies as they were originally released. It's well worth tracking down and still enjoyable more than a decade later.

New Star Wars Music Editorial Set This is a beautiful collection of soundtracks from the Star Wars trilogy for audiophiles of classic music, fans of the series and new initiates, a great gift idea for any season. If you are waiting to catch Star Wars The Force Awakens, there is a brand new music editorial excerpt from a larger presentation currently in production. The entire set is seven pieces plus a movie (film) review for the newest Star Wars chapter from Lucasfilm and Disney starring our most popular science fiction heroes Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, The Jedi Masters and The Dark Side of the Force plus bad and OK Imperial Storm Troopers and Rebel Fighters. http://citadelcg.midnighttracks.net/star-wars You can enjoy the entire presentation in large format HQ/IMAX/HD at http://midnighttracks.net/2015/star-wars Make sure you use an audio headset when viewing because this is a MUSIC editorial presentation using press clips/footage for the montage. This is an excellent source for all Star Wars music. You get 4 CD's with all the music from the original trilogy. If you bought just one CD of one of the movies, it would cost you the same amount, if not more than buying this collection! The book that comes with it is great and tells when each song is played and what is happening in the movie at that time! A great find!

This is most defintately Williams at his best. The three CDs for Episodes IV, V, and VI are great fun to listen to and the fourth CD, the unreleased material, is lovely, as it contains extra orchestrations and pieces not used in the films. If you're going to buy the Star Wars music, get this set. It comes with a book full of photos and prelim sketches, and a track-by-track commentary. I would recommend this to anyone who had seen and enjoyed the original Star Wars movies; hearing these CDs brings back all the greatest moments from the films.
