Star Wars X-Wing Rogue Squadron #1: The Phantom Affair

Overview

The Battle of Endor was never fought -- it was just so much Alliance propaganda. At least, that's the lie being spread by the Ante-Endor Association. But Wedge Antilles and his Rogue Squadron comrades know the truth. They were at Endor when so many gave their lives to destroy the second Death Star. And so, for those lost friends, this is a battle they will not lose.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Intergalactic Tom Clancy, I might call this. Here we've got a political crapshoot for the next high-technology cloaking mechanism; whoever gets it pretty much calls the shots. Our protagonist is Wedge Antilles -- one of Luke's subordinates -- an X-Wing jockey who leads the Rogue Squadron; Wedge goes to the Mrlsst Academy -- think Harvard in space, with an insect-headed dean -- to represent the New Republic's bid for the phantom cloaker. Doesn't take Wedge long, though, to smell something funky -- the Empire's representative is Captain Hask, a former intergalactic pirate who killed Wedge's mom and dad in a fuel heist. This book is chock-full of story: part political drama, part sci-fi-tech thriller, and part mystery, with more twists and turns than archaeopteryx's spine. This is some of the very best characterization in comics I've seen -- each character so well fleshed out you feel everything they feel, and the brilliantly devised network of subplots, character lines, double crosses, and hoodwinks will have you sitting on the edge of your S-Foil Servo Actuator to get to the finish line. Oh, and did I mention that the Mrlsst Academy is haunted? By a dead Jedi Knight?
—Edward Lee
