    Feels great and less filling

Dr. Stark has made a significant contribution to our understanding of stretching. I discovered the book in the bibliography of The Pelvic Girdle by Diane Lee. Dr. Stark emphasizes gentle static stretching which is easy to learn and is safe because one has control over the stretch. The strengths of his book include: how to stretch and mistakes in stretching. The primary mistakes we make are: overstretching, and loading other structures, e.g., ligaments. There are many excellent illustrations in the book of ligaments being stretched. If ligaments become permanently elongated, it will result in hypermobility. However, if one follows Dr. Starks principles, tissue damage will be avoided. As the other astute reviewer noted, The Stark Reality of Stretching is much safer than yoga stretching. This is a very unique book, and I highly recomend it to everyone.

    A Stark Raving Review!

Hello! I'd recommend that anyone into teaching physical education ought to read this book. It gives extremely valuable information about how to stretch safely. It gives infinitely valuable advice on postures to avoid while stretching, postures that could do more damage than good. If you look at those diagrams you'll be stunned to find that they are identical to many yoga postures! Having hurt my back thigh and shoulder doing yoga, and over the years having found safe ways to do yoga, I entirely agree with this author's advice. Also, he teaches ways to relax enough to allow stretches to happen rather than force them in a counter-productive way. Perhaps in his next edition he could add more stretch routines that are safe and effective to those he has presented here. There surely should be more editions; we need more books like this in this field. Raja Bhat, MD
