My daughter loves this series! They provide a good jump from picture books to chapter books. There are some pictures and the books are broken into chapters so she feels like a big girl. I highly recommend. Mercy Watson series is another great transition between picture and chapter books.

I credit these Breyer horsebooks for really getting my reluctant (and book-frightened) daughter reading. The first one came a year ago and I groaned when I looked at the text: way too hard for a struggling reader! But it pays to keep 'hard' books around for kids, and by this spring she had sworn off other books in favor of these. There are times when I'm sure the words will trip her up- but she carefully figures them out and goes on with the story. Short chapters, interesting tales, not too much text per page, and beautiful pictures make these a perfect find for my now 8yo daughter. The only problem is when she finishes reading one, and I don't yet have another on hand!

My five year old daughter and I love the Breyers' books. The illustrations are beautiful and the reading is simplistic. Perfect for her age. The stories are realistic yet still hold her attention.

My 3 1/2 yr old loves these stories. They are somewhat realistic in their setting, storyline, and horse facts.
