Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
A young child wishes upon a star as he shares a bedtime story with his mother. The wish comes true as the child drifts into dreams and embarks on an ocean adventure in his paper boat. He sails to another land and plays with children on golden sand. They build a castle and pretend to be knights and kings. A princess on a white horse and a small panda escort him into a cave for exploring. They meet a red and gold storytelling dragon and she takes them for a ride across the starlit sky. After they land, the child climbs into his paper boat and drifts from the shore. Mermaids sing a lullaby while flying fish dance in the sky. The child slumbers until he greets his mother at morning light. The rhyming text is soothing and the illustrations in calming pastel shades fill the pages with dreamlike qualities. Includes illustrated directions for making a paper boat. A good choice for bedtime sharing. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
