Overview

Praise for The Pursuit of Happyness

"The Pursuit of Happyness is an inspiring story of how an incredibly determined man made it to the big time boardroom, and stayed there....It's a great story." —Donald Trump

New York Times bestselling author Chris Gardner returns with a fantastic inspirational self-help book that hopes to provide direction in a time of great uncertainty.

If you've been dealing with the loss of a job or home, or have had a health or financial crisis, Start Where You Are abounds with lessons that offer hope and provide a road map for starting anew. This is also the ideal book for anyone ready to launch a personal or professional undertaking, or someone who simply wants to break through the cycles and thinking that have limited his or her potential in the past.

Editorial Reviews

BookPage
“Start Where You Are represents the next phase in Gardner’s career, offering hope and sound advice in this tough economic climate. . . .Transformative and inspirational.”
Ebony
“Gardner offers practical advice and pragmatic suggestions for tackling life’s problems. . . In 44 ‘tell-it-like-it-is’ chapters. . .Gardner provides a blueprint for navigating tumultuous times.”
Library Journal

Gardner follows his best-selling memoir, The Pursuit of Happyness, with a collection of 44 lessons that he feels helped make his life successful and that he hopes will help others. Gardner explains that this is the book he originally intended to write, but he first had to deal with his past; he recommends that all his readers do the same. His memoir is the perfect setup for this new self-help book, in which he shares his philosophy and the lessons he learned, which took him from an abusive childhood to homelessness and finally to being the chief executive of his own multimillion-dollar brokerage firm. This smart and well-written guide includes excellent suggestions for both everyday life and work, with the last sentence summing up Gardner's message: "Accepting responsibility is accepting that your dreams really can come true." The result is hopeful and uplifting-not a bad thing to see in these days of economic turmoil.
—Mary E. Jones

    Fantastic

I saw Chris on the Nate Berkus show and what he did for a struggling young man who is climbing the stairs of life and I loved what Chris was saying, I downloaded the sample of this book and felt like he was talking to me. I am 65 and in a situation of having a grown child and 19 yr old grandson who knows all about life already. My husband is ambulatory and owns his own business, I take care of paperwork for the business. I was having a pity party and started reading the sample Where you are! I said to myself I am going to take back control of my home and be able to do crafts which I love to do and gave them till June 30th to find their own way. Made me feel good inside and back in control so I can do my passion. Thank you Chris for giving me these words of wisdom, now I am anxious to start reading the rest of your words of wisdom.
