Overview

"A powerful and penetrating exploration of what separates great companies and great leaders from the rest."
-Polly LaBarre, coauthor of Mavericks at Work

Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty?

In studying the leaders who've had the greatest influence in the world, Simon Sinek discovered that they all think, act, and communicate in the exact same way-and it's the complete opposite of what everyone else does. People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why.

Drawing on a wide range of real-life stories, Sinek weaves together a clear vision of what it truly takes to lead and inspire.

One of the best books of 2009

I read at least 2-3 books a month. This was one of them. I regularly use Simon's Why, How and What to focus myself and my customers to organize and prioritize our thoughts and plans. Lots of people focus on what they do, fewer know how and the least know why. A meaningful why results in energy, focus, attracts capital and customers. Simon's examples and application ideas make this a great book.

    Thoughtful and inspiring

One of the better "business" books I've read in a while. Yet, it is much more far reaching than a "business book." It works with the topic of a purpose driven companies and organizations in a very real and tangible way and manages to both challenge your thinking and inspire you. Definitely an easy read and worth it.

    time to look within yourself

    start with why indeed.

there appears to be an overwhelming sense of urgency when it comes to businesses trying to navigate the mindscapes of why consumers do the things they do.

when those leaders of businesses, or organizations both large and small are inspirational, or make the flow of action seamless or profitable, we sit back and think that there is a formula, a golden ticket for all of their successes.

why do leaders inspire? why do they take risks? why do they often turn a blind eye to the conformities of society? why do they break the mold?

    why?

well. news flash. the story has been written numerous times, by numerous individuals, declaring themselves "expert" on the subject matter.

this is one of those "expert" books. we all are looking for some inspiration in our lives. we all want a sense of community in the workplace. we all want a sense of purpose. why should we have to be inspired by our CEO's, or politicians, or business owners? if they need a guide (this book), they shouldn't have ended up where they did. some do, as the "expert" says, naturally have a clearer vision of their businesses and how to run them. bravo/brava. they worked hard. they didn't sacrifice their level of self (we hope), for the organizations gain (we hope).

when it comes down to it, we cannot be taught to inspire, especially by "experts" claiming they have the golden key (or circle). life doesn't work like that. it's time to look within ourselves. do you want to work to please your boss? or is it more likely that we work hard, not for the love of working hard, but for the love of our husbands, sons, daughters, wives. we are inspired, after all, from the smiles and love of family and friends. sure there is that much needed paycheck. funny how our worth is printed on paper, weekly, or bi-weekly. start with why indeed. start with why these "experts" aren't experts at all. let's start with why these "experts" are oftentimes the ones with the least amount of character. you'd be surprised to find out the DNA of such individuals. i wonder if you can be an "expert" on inspiration and leadership when you aren't married, nor have a family. my guess is, many leaders have both, and these "experts" have neither. a leader has character. a heart. a soul. that is what inspires.

we should start with why...why are wasting our money?

Why am I writing a review? You need to know about this!

This book touches on the most basic tool to success. Our reason for success. Socrates said a unexamined life is not worth living. A business that doesn't examine why they are in business will not stay in business long. Start with Why analyzes companies that have remembered "why" and helps you find yours. A must read for anyone that has lost some inspiration or are looking to create a mega phone for the future!

Thank you Simon for writing this book... I'm so amped about my future megaphone!
