Best book on statistics for the historical or geographical sciences

A friend of mine who was getting his Ph.D. in civil engineering (hydrology, really) turned me on to the previous edition of this book. I think it's the best general book on statistics for field sciences like geology, geomorphology, archaeology, geography, hydrology, and probably many other sciences. I'm an archaeologist, and there's no similar book in my field. It's an advanced book, not an introductory one. It's appropriate for an advanced undergraduate or a graduate course, or for a professional of any level who really needs to know how to do something. The writing is wonderfully clear and simple, even when addressing complex topics such as solving simultaneous equations using matrix algebra or calculating eigenvectors. The book is a real treasure for anyone interested in the topic.
