Overview

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You and Be with Me returns with a daring tale that pushes boundaries . . . in which a young woman learns that you can't run from your past—no matter how far you go

At twenty-one, Calla hasn't done a lot of things. She's never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.

But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now Calla has to go back to the small town she thought she'd left behind and clean up her mom's mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother's bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.

Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla's business from the moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she's got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn't give them her mom.

Editorial Reviews

Jay Crownover
“There is a reason J. Lynn will always be one of my go-to authors. She never disappoints.”
Library Journal

Jax, a soldier devastated by his experiences in Afghanistan, meets Calla, scarred by the fire that killed her siblings, and the rest is romance. The first two books in Lynn's new adult "Wait for You" series were both New York Times best sellers, so great expectations—and the 100,000-copy first printing—aren't unreasonable.

If I'm being perfectly honest, I'm not convinced Jen can write a bad book. Ever. She's one of my favorite authors and I've loved every single book she's written, in one way or another. Her characters are wonderful and I can't help but fall in love with them. Whether she's writing as J. Lynn or JLA, young adult or new adult, contemporary or paranormal, I can almost guarantee I'm going to fall in love. I had high expectations for Stay With Me and she exceeded every one of them.

Stay With Me is Calla's story. Calla hasn't had an easy life. Her mom is an addict. She was the victim of a fire that left her with a lot of scars and a lack of self-esteem. She's got great friends (most of whom we've met earlier in this series) and is enjoying college. Her life is turned upside down when she learns her mom has wiped her accounts clean and she no longer has the money to continue on in school. Hell bent on getting her life back on track, she heads home to confront her mom and get her money back. It's there she meets Jax, a bartender at her mom's bar, and this heroine starts to star in her own story, instead of continuing on in a supporting role in the story of others.

I loved the dynamic between Calla and Jax from the beginning. It was obvious he saw her as more than the girl with the scars. He was worried about her getting mixed up in all the things her mom was into. She, of course, wasn't interested in his concern. She was a girl on a mission. But, as more and more of her mom's secrets, associations and debts came to light, things got real REAL quick and Jax helped Calla deal with all of it. He was a great source of support for her, and more importantly, he helped her see the woman underneath the scars. With Jax's help and attention, she realized she was worthy of the affection she'd been craving while watching her friends and their relationships.

Jax just might be my new favorite of the guys in J. Lynn's Wait for You series. A former Marine, he was smoking hot, super protective of those he cared about, smart and sexy as sin. He was a bit naughty and completely drool-worthy. He's a perfect addition to the "hot guy brigade."

Jen has done it again. The romance was wonderful. The sexy times were hot. There was a healthy dose of drama and some moments that had me on the edge of my seat. As I expected, there were plenty of feels, too. I loved the glimpse we got into the lives of Cam and Avery and Jase and Teresa. I love these couples so much. It was great to catch up with them and watch as their happily ever afters continue. This is new adult at its very best and if you're not reading this series, you're definitely missing out.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review.

    .....

I LOVE this series... this book was my least favorite though. I think it would have been better as a stand alone but it was nice to see Kyler and the rest of the hot guy squad make appearances.

Having said this was my least favorite of the series I need to clarify by adding I did still enjoy the book. It had a good plot but did get annoying at times. The alpha male stubbornness of the newest hot guy had me wanting to nut punch him a few times and I was disappointed our leading lady never did that. But this book is very much a good read.

I gave it 3 stars because I felt the appearance Cam and company a little forced even though I really did enjoy seeing them... Plus I felt the pacing of the story seemed to be missing something the other books had.

    Excellent addition to the series

I have never been one to read romantic novels, but i have read all the ones in these series. I'm am very impressed with writing and how we can be held by every line.
I am very impressed with how Mrs. Lynn can tie everything together, between all the stories. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Calla showed me amazing strength as she endured several tragedies and always found a way to move forward. Jax has a heart of gold and wants to protect everyone that he loves. J. Lynn always shocks me with how well she crafts a story, the intricacies in the characters' lives and how little things intersect in BIG ways which surprises me as the reader and adds so much wonderful complexity and depth to the story. Stay With Me delivers on all of those levels. Calla is this amazingly strong woman that has overcome incredible odds to get to college and work towards a nursing career. Then the rug is pulled out from under her by the one person she would hope to be able to trust, her mom. As she dives back into the world she walked away from to find a way to fix the mess she is in, she meets Jax. Jax carries his own baggage but his attraction to Calla is absolute. He wants to do nothing more than help her fix her problems so she can heal and move forward, hopefully with him. I don't want to give away too much since there were so many fabulous connections that you need to experience as you read the story. If you loved Wait for Me, I feel confident that Stay With Me will knock your socks off too.

    Love!!

I loved this one so much - might be my new favorite from J. Lynn.

Jax and Calla's relationship is beautiful in its entirety- its strong and fragile, its calm and explosive.

    J. Lynn does it again! And we get to see Teresa and Jase and Cam and Avery in this one too. If you're a fan of her books, or if you've never tried one, pick this one up!

Amazing New Adult fiction that stands out from the rest.

Another perfect love story by J. Lynn

I have been reading this series since tge beginning and with each love story about these characters J. Lynn writes the story just gets better. While each story is a tale all on its own they all tie into a bigger story that each new book gives us another peice of. This book like its predecessors made me cry, laugh, and cheer for love. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book!

Author Jennifer L. Armentrout, writing as J. Lynn, has done it again with this next installment in the Wait for You series. And let me tell you, I have not been disappointed in any of these stories. Each one holds a little place in my heart for the characters, and I especially love that characters from the other books make appearances, and play important roles, in the books. It’s almost like reliving the reason I fell in love with each of their stories.

I will admit, this book in this series really stuck with me. It was heartbreaking to read about the struggles that main character, Calla, has had to go through from such a young age, to present day. What really pissed me off was just how terrible her life turned out. What kind of father walks out on his family after a tragic fire that leaves two of his children dead, and one horrifically burned. And not to mention the mental toll it took on the mother, Mona.

But Mona is not off the hook either. Her downward decline was heartbreaking. I can sympathize with her pain and her loss, and I can’t even begin to imagine the difficult time she has had to go through to come to grips with all the loss she had, but to spiral so out of control that she basically abandons Calla for a life of drugs and stupidity? Come. On.

And poor Calla! Having to lie to her friends in college, telling them that her mother is dead because of the shame of the truth. But as we all know, lies tend to surface, and it sure did, in a big way, for Calla. But what a way to have your mother back in your life! To find out that she basically swindled her out of all her college savings, applied for loans under Calla’s name, and not paying anything, thereby putting Calla into a whole ton of debt, that she did not even know she had! And because of all this, her college plans may fall through, and now she has to go back “home” to fix her moms mess. Geeze, thanks a lot mom…

But sometimes, coming home to your roots may not all be for the worse. Enter Jackson(Jax) James. A man who has a smirk that can challenge all smirks out there. A former soldier with secrets of his own, Jax is a sexy bartender who seems to say and do all the right things. But because of Calla’s very limited experience with the opposite sex, are things that she feels as inappropriate really inappropriate? Or is Jax just the kind of man who can school her in all the right ways…including accepting who she is, scars and all.

Not only is this a sexy romantic story for everyone to enjoy, there’s also a little suspense due to the fact that the “mob” is now basically in search of Mona for a deal gone wrong (or something like that). But because Calla has returned home, she now seems to have acquired Mona’s target, and nowhere seems safe…except with Jax…

I will admit, it did take me a little bit longer to warm up to Jax’s character. I found him arrogant, at first, and wasn’t feeling him. But that did change, and once I was hooked, I didn’t want to let go. He ended up being one of the sexiest, hottest, most lusted after male character that I’ve come across. *fans self*

And don’t get me started on Calla. How much did my heart break that she felt so unattractive and had come to accept that boys would not look her way. I adored the fact that Jax saw beyond her physical features and found her so beautiful. It was endearing. I enjoyed watching Calla’s transformation as she slowly accepted how she looked, and it’s all thanks to Jax. *swoon*

I would recommend this read to fans of the Wait For You books, those who are looking for a new book boyfriend to swoon over, and to read a story that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end.
