Overview

In 1979, five toddlers were found alone in a luxury boat tied to a dock in Puerto Rico after a devastating hurricane. No one knew who they were or where they came from. Raised by different families, they remained connected by a special bond—always considering themselves siblings, despite their unknown blood relations.

Now adults, Taina, Holly, Adrian, and Raymond have been summoned by the fifth, David, to an island off the coast of Connecticut and the family home of David's ex-girlfriend, Julia. But along with the joy of reuniting comes the exposure of raw places, jealousy, and childhood sorrows. Having been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer—and experiencing flashbacks to the time before the hurricane—David believes that healing his relationship with Julia and discovering his origins will strengthen his ability to endure and survive. David pushes the people he loves the most to their emotional breaking points in order to uncover the truth about the mystery that both unites and divides them.

Intensely gripping and lyrically written, Stay with Me is a magnificent blend of romance, suspense, atmosphere, and intrigue that brilliantly explores the true meaning of family and the remarkable ways a personal history can paint a future.

It's brain cancer and it's fatal!

"If I ever forget who I am,
bring me here and I'll remember"

Such a haunting premonition of things to come for the abandoned children who were found aboard an old boat, For Tuna when they were only 5 and younger.

Now David, Taina, Holly Adrian and Ray each have grown but managed to stay in contact with one another. Long ago, one night they were discovered with no parents beneath the hatch of an old boat. Dressed in fine clothes and unable to speak much, they were all put into foster care. The only strange thing uniting them was a hand drawn starfish on each of their left hands. Each of them still carries that reminder with them, all permanently tattoed on their hand in various shapes and sizes.

When David learns that he has a fatal brain cancer, he brings all his brothers and sisters together on Griswold Island, off the Connecticut coast. This is the home of his former ex-girlfriend, Julia, but also one whom David wants to marry. Each of them believe they are here to help David get his mind off of dying and spend some quality time with him.

Yet David has other ideas, beginning with the flashbacks he had when they discovered his brain tumor. Are the flashbacks merely part of his cancer attacking his brain or are they secrets of who they really are and how they arrived in Puerto Rico?

In the book, Stay With Me, by Sandra Rodriguez Barron, we are taken into the lives of each of the five children who are dealing with their own personal struggles of what happened to them. Each of them is attempting to push the past back and move forward with the present, but are unable to.

I received the book compliments of TLC Book Tours for my honest review, and have to say, this story really captivated my heart and took me for a ride. I love the struggle with David most of all, because of his cancer, he has nothing left to fear in uncovering the truth that brought them all together and discovering what happened to them those many years ago. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars!

    Heartwarming

In 1979, five toddlers, each with a starfish drawn on their hand, were rescued from a small boat during a hurricane. An anonymous female telephoned the Mayaguez, Puerto Rico authorities tipping them off that the five children were on a boat tied to a dock with no adult supervision. Each was placed in a home, but David, Adrian, Raymond, Taina and Holly kept in touch as the harrowing experience bonded them like siblings.

Almost three decades later, David is diagnosed with brain cancer. His four mates rush to his side to be there for him. He considers them his family; and has two requests of them that only they can perform. He wants to know if their DNA matches and pleads with them to discover the identity of the female who called the cops, thirty years ago. Although they disagreed in the past whether to investigate what happened, the other four will do anything for David who is dying.

The quintet makes the tale seem plausible as each has a unique personality, but it is David's illness which anchors the realism and provides a tear jerker element. Character driven, fans will enjoy the saga of the five who came from the sea as babies illegally (good thing it was Puerto Rico) who always even in death remain bonded to one another.

I enjoyed every page of this book. The characters and their stories were so well written, at I felt almost as a tresspasser in a very personal moment for them. I can't wait to read another book by this author!

    Writing is inconsistant

The story itself is heart wrenching, but the voice of the author changes constantly. Sometimes she uses words I never heard of for simple things. Other times she explains things that are a given. She had long phrases of spanish without translation, so i was constantly googling phrases. Good story overall, but writing needs work
