Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Dottie Raymer's Staying Home Alone prepares kids for those times when they have the house all to themselves. The emphasis is on safety but the tone is not didactic. Instead, important information is made kid-friendly through engaging graphics and an accessible format, with lots of sidebars. Especially helpful is the opening chapter, which addresses house rules and assesses a young person's readiness for this new responsibility. And there are chapters on dealing with siblings, handling tricky situations, and knowing who to call for specific emergencies. Lauren Scheuer's cartoon illustrations reflect the target audience—middle-school girls—but boys, too, will find this an invaluable guide. 2002, American Girl/Pleasant Company,

    Nice!

This book was great! I thought it gave great advice. The book was inspiring and very helpful. Its starts from seeing if your even ready to some delicious food recipes when hunger eats away at you! This book was great. I was nervous (not to mention bored and lonely because I'm an only child) about staying home alone, so my mom bought this book for me and it gave me great ideas to occupy my time to keep me too busy to worry! Great book, great book!

    omg

o mah gosh its not a really scary thing to be by yourself at home. ive done it since i was like 8 because my mom is in the army so we have moved to state 2 state. its not like i stay home for like 10 hours by myself its only like 2-4 hours.it gives me just enough time to get stuff done before she gets home im thirteen so ive done it for 5 years now. the first couple of years i had an aunt that lived less than 3 minutes away because of this so i was pretty safe(and another thing, i live on the third floor of my apartment building and i doubt that sum1 wants to cooome allll the way up and try to rob me and go alllllll the waaay down cause its very tiring!!!!!!!!!!!)

    Awesome

This book is fantastically terrific for girls. It definitely equips them in a detailed way that my generation was not. This book was telling you about how to handle yourself when you are at home by yourself. It tells how girls can be brave and be happy and not worried while you're at home alone!

    Boo!

This book isn't even worth one star. It says, 'If someone shows up at your door and they are a stranger, you should open the door and tell them to come in.' How stupid! Innocent girls could get robbed because they listened to this book! I have a daughter who read this book, and I told her not to listen to it. And I don't think anyone else should, either!

Begging to stay home alone? Read this!

This book gives you advice on how to be safe and comfortable when you're staying home alone. At the beginning it gives you a quiz on wether you are ready to stay home alone yet, and at the back, there are some cards that you can write emergancy numbers on, and that you can write the rules you have to follow while you are alone. This book is really really very very GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (did I mention that this book also shows you hoow to stay home alone with your siblings?)
