Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Denise Daley
This well-written and engaging story introduces the reader to several small town families whose lives are entwined simply because of their proximity to one another. Camden Falls, Massachusetts is a tight knit community that is experiencing its share of struggles, and it is not just because of the economic down turn that has left the entire town looking run down and shabby. Many of the families are experiencing the heartache that comes with life. Flora and Ruby, for example, live with their grandmother because their parents died in a car accident. The Hamilton children's mother is in an institution because she suffers from mental instability. Mr. Pennington is mourning the recent loss of his beloved dog, and another neighbor, Robby, has Down syndrome. In addition to the uncertainty and trepidation that may arise as a result of these situations, the characters also find comfort and support in each other. Martin, well-known author of the popular Baby-sitters Club series, will certainly garner a new generation of followers in this realistic and heartfelt "Main Street" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley

The tenth book of the MAIN STREET series was just as good as the rest. The economic recession has hit Camden Falls, and many of the businesses on Main Street are having tough times. Plus, Flora and Ruby are in the middle of a huge fight. Ruby destroyed something of her grandmother's and is trying to hide it. Flora thinks Ruby should fess up. Nikki and Olivia are sick of it, since they can't hang out together because Ruby and Flora are not talking. Nikki is also looking for a dog for Mr. Pennington. I really enjoy this series. It is not action packed, but it has a lot of heart and is smart writing. I have come to love all of the girls and the adults in their lives, and I care about what happens to them.

I love these books because they show what real friends do to help eachother. Ann m martain should make more of these books. And in the end of the book where the part where the anonymous man goes in to the anonymous womans house and they come oout of the hpuse. I think that it is aunt allie, mr.barrnes and the baby janie. Dont you think so too
