In most cases, bands put out these odds and sods collections for die-hard fans, to fulfill a record deal, or to stall while they're taking seven years to record a follow-up. Steal This Album!, on the other hand, definitely doesnot fit any of those ideals. First, it's almost impossible to think of this as an "outtakes" record. System of a Down has managed to make tracks from a seven-year period sound cohesive without having to embellish or sacrifice. Some might argue that maybe they're just treading water. Not true. If System proved anything with 2001's Toxicity, it's that they're one of the few breaths of fresh air out there in mainstream metal land. This collection is no different, and with its amazing pacing, it's hard to not be moved by what this band can do. Secondly, Steal This Album! has everything that a "normal" album release would have; it's heavy without being a burden, political without being condescending, and in some cases, downright beautiful. It's been mentioned that this is the link to what they've done and what they're moving towards. If that turns out to be true, the next one should be a monster.

perhaps the best album of all time (excluding nirvana)

this cd completes me. the best SOAD album and maybe one of the best in my collection. All of the songs blew me away with their complexity and hard-pounding rythm. And finally, they have gained back that touch of Armenian rythm that makes them so unique. Chic'n'Stu - 6/10 - A song about pizza and advertisements... need I say more? Innervision - 7/10 - one of the only two singles from this album and it's ok. definately not the best on the album. talks about recreating human society from the start. Bubbles - 9/10 - Awesome. Really fast riffs and awesome pounding rhythms. One of my favorite songs to play on guitar. Talks about people blindly abiding and following power struggles. Boom! - 7/10 - the other single. perhaps the most politically-charged song of them all. downfall - chorus is repetative and somewhat annoying. Talks about everything wrong with corporation and war. Nuguns - 8/10 - Fast rocking and slow riffs. Pretty cool mix. Talks about how people do anything for money... even if it means killing someone in the process. ADD - 10/10 - Genious. This song is awesome. It combines the best of both worlds: seemingly incoherent words and rhythms and somehow molds them into an awesome rush of rock. Talks about how when the usa is at war, bush seems to forget about all of us down here. Mr. Jack - 7/10 - cool guitar parts. downfall - slow in parts and you have to wait about 2 minutes for the actual song. Talks about... uh... child molestors i think... I-E-A-I-A-I-O - 6/10 - really annoying guitar parts and chorus, but the fast riffs and verses are pretty cool. talks about... NOTHING! THIS SONG IS MADE OF RANDOM WORDS THROWN TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 36 - -2/10 - oh. my. GOD! completely stupid. Annoying intro and gets worse. Talks about how people waste their lives away at tv (and yet they make half their profits from tv...) Pictures - 7/10 - talks about nothing but still manages to be pretty good. cool sort of drumline thing going on the back and a cool sort of headbanger part. Highway Song - 10/10 - Another Awesome track. you HAVE to hear this. its got chords, a really complex beat, and awesome riffs. Talks about how humankind has screwed up and now all we can do is let god direct our lives. F the System - 8/10 - Actually pretty good. How DO they get that awesome guitar sound? cool pulsing beat and nice accentuation in the chorus. The lyrics (however hard to understand) talk about how war is just caused by misunderstanding and prejudice, and well, that we should F the system of war! Ego Brain - 10/10 - Awesome. Purely awesome. By far the most melodic and has the second best guitar parts on the CD. Talks about how life is precious and we should live how we want, not how others tell us to. Thetawaves - 9/10 - This CD just gets better and better! neat guitar sounds and a reprecussing rhythm throughout. Basically puts into song the expression, "ignorance is bliss" Roulette - 10/10 - the only acoustic song on here, and yet one of the best. slow beat but picks up with a really kool solo. Talks about how people feel uncomfortable with things they dont understand (uses a girl as a metaphor) Streamline - 100/10 - yes, i did add that extra zero on purpose. it blows my mind how you could come into a studio and write something like this. A really epic song, by far the best ending song to any album EVER. Even beats my cherished nirvana cds. Has a simple, yet attracting intro/riff and an extremely epic lick and solo that drops back down into a bridge with violins and then the chorus again. Then finally explodes in a fury and rage of sound. Awesome.

    Like ALL System albums... wonderful!

Some may say the other two albums were better but they are apparentlly not true System fans... if they didn't try to "steal" unfinished System music through the internet they never would have sent this album out so soon after Toxicity and then they would have relized the essance of Steal this Album! They don't care no matter what anyway. They are just trying to get heard. If you don't like their art then they won't care... you are intitled to your own thought. Though I LOVE ALL THEIR MUSIC... maybe it's because they actually speak out unlike this "glacial pop climate" this country is in.

For System of a Down fans only

This is a great CD, but I wouldn't recommend it for non-system fans or rockers who like thrashing to the music, though it does have something for your every mood. It seems to em some of these songs are pointless, Nu-guns, Thetawaves, Innervision, 36 (which I love anyway), Pictures, and Streamline. These all seem run together, and though they may have a point, its hard to reach and sketchy. Listening to this was the first time I think I heard System put filler songs into a CD. They are allright songs though, and if anything are made up for my ADD, Mr. Jack, I-E-A-I-A-I-O, and Ego Brain. These are fantastic songs, and the others do seem to come through to capture the overall meaning of the album. Overall, its got something for your every mood, but if your not a system fan, get Toxicity or their self titled album.

    [no title]

System is a great band. This CD is good, but, I prefer the toxicity and SOAD albums. While this album is good, I would first buy the other two. This album is musically inferior, as System seems to be attempting to increase the political nature of their music. I am in favor of them doing so, but hope they wont sacrifice the musical side that toxicity seemed to have near perfected.

One of the New Great Bands

System of a Down is one of the few new band that are absolutely amazing. Serj's vocal are outstanding. The music is thought provoing although I may not agree w/ all the ideas

    Waste of Time

This album is really just a waste of time. It never reaches the intensity and brutality of their awesome self-titled release and doesn't accomplish the interesting and divergent sounds of "Toxicity". The songs are all thrown together with no apparent sense as to continuity, and the split focus between their old and new material thrown onto one album is rather jarring. Very few songs stand out, and I found myself waiting for the whole thing just to be over rather than anticipating the next song. It can also be said that it was a bad move to release this album, because now SOAD seems overexposed, and it's hard to envision them creating any new sound for the future now that all their released material sounds exactly the same. It's a shame. "Innervision" is a good song though.

    Back to 1998

System has returned to it's original style of 1998 hardcore guitar, and less fooling around with studio effects in this CD. Their lyrical style still progresses foward into the politically inspired.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN KICKS A$$

SYSTEM OF A DOWN IS THE BEST BAND EVER! FROM THEIR FIRST SELF-TITLED CD TO "STEAL THIS ALBUM!" SOAD HAS ALWAYS BEEN AWSOME! FROM THE SWEET VOCALS FROM SERJ TANKIAN TO THE ROCKING GUITAR PLAYED BY DARON MALAKIAN, NO ONE MATCHES UP TO SYSTEM OF A DOWN!!!!!!

    Excellent Compilation

While this album is not without flaw, it is an excellent compilation of songs that had already leaked onto the internet and were begging to be redone. I've listened to System since '97, and this a great segway from Toxicity to their next album. Favorites include: Thetawaves Pictures American Dream Denial (A.D.D.)

    Cool Great Excellent Album

This album puts S.O.A.D. back in the map. They are returning to their old selfs when their music was about corruption in the system. Of course this album won't be the best because to me the self titled album will always be the best. But it is a great album should sell millions of copies.

    Awesome album, without a doubt

Not in ANY way a 1 hit album, picking singles from an album like this must be a major pain. Some songs have been released before but, they were awesome then and they are awesome now. BUY, DO NOT STEAL THIS ALBUM
