Overview

This how-to jewelry-making book features the work of an array of invited jewelry designers influenced by the growing Steampunk trend. In Steampunk circles, jewelry-makers are often master metalsmiths who combine found objects with fine metals to create elaborate pieces. In Steampunk-Style Jewelry, the projects focus on "no fire" techniques—like simple stringing, wirework, hammering, stamping, gluing, stitching, and off-loom beadwork—so that even a beginner can create pieces in the style. Each project provides a complete materials and tools list, step-by-step instructions, and clear illustrations. This book offers a broad overview of a growing design trend that is part of the literary, industrial design, fashion, and popular culture scene. Readers will learn about the art movement through the many photographic sidebars that explore the many aspects of the trend.

I purchased this book as a both inspriation and to see adhesive use for this style of craft. The ideas are absolutely wonderful, I was able to build off of her pieces and also got great ideas for 'found' pieces. For a beginning Steampunker, this is a great book!

Great source of inspiration and also a wealth of Steampunk information (history, music, clothing, etc.). Gives you plenty of projects to start with, and it leaves you at a spot where you can add to it or start your own project. No need to be an excellent craftsman to make the jewelry in the book. Just simple tools, and little whatnots (the book gives you ideas on where to get the pieces required for the jewelry.). All in all, if you're looking for a new twist on jewelry, always wondered or would like to learn a bit about the Steampunk culture, this is a great book to get you started.

Love me some steampunk. Though it has been a while since I read a book that has steampunk elements or surrounds around steampunk, etc. Anyway this book was pretty good and interesting, seeing the different jewelry designs. My favorites being necklaces and costumes, though the earrings and rings weren't half bad. Now I got to look for other steampunk type books.

If you've ever done beadwork this book will move you into Steampunk style with ease. If you're new to crafting of this sort its an excellent start to the fun of making your own jewelry and it has a goodly number of useful designs to either copy or modify to your own desires.

I would have previewed this book through the library or at a bookstore. This jewelry book has pages of uninteresting information and fluff (Topping it Off, Lolita, Dressing Up, and Steampunk Animated to name a FEW) that seems to be an attempt to explain the steampunk culture but has nothing to do with jewelry. Most of the jewelry projects did not inspire me because they use mass-produces jewelry elements in ordinary ways - which is counter to my concept of Steampunk. If I had previewed this book, I would have passed on it.
