Overview

Stem Cell Research and Cloning delves into the issues surrounding one of the most controversial scientific practices of our day. Although many people believe that scientific research involving stem cells will advance medical knowledge, others argue that the use of embryonic stem cells for research objectifies or even destroys potential human life. A similarly controversial process, often called "therapeutic cloning," is another modern medical technique that has some of the same goals as stem cell research, but even more opposition to its practice. This book explores the legal and political ramifications of the debates about these processes, including federal funding for stem cell research, privately funded research, and the government's role in limiting scientific inquiry.
