    Step One: Guitar for Beginners

As a New York State retired band director, I now have more time to spend with my instruments. I had not played guitar in about 20 years and decided to brush up on my skills with a brand new book . I purchased the Step One: Guitar for Beginners published by Amsco . It appealed to me because it is divided into three sections ¿ the method, the chords and the scales. It also includes three tutorial compact disks to play along with. I would highly recommend this book to beginners as well as advanced players because it gives explicit, easy to understand explanations about holding the guitar, tuning it, picking, strumming, jazz, rock, etc. It includes 200 chord diagrams with photos of a person¿s hand on the strings. Yet, it also teaches you how to play single strings and includes sing-a-long songs. The book is filled with so much theory that can be applied to other instruments as well. Once you work with this book, you will develop better playing skills and technique. Enjoy it as much as I do.
