Stepchildren of the eighth commandment
The adopted children of Samuil Batsa from a remote village in the Lower Tatras have a strange gift: people are like people, but they have abilities that a person should not have. They are thieves, but they do not cut off the wallets of onlookers, but steal secret thoughts, aspirations, skills and knowledge. The "stepchildren of the eighth commandment" settled down quite well in life: Jan is the abbot in the Benedictine monastery in Tynets, and soon he will be a bishop; Teresa is the wife of a wealthy merchant; pan Michal - governor in the count's castle, such gentry were in great demand in the turbulent 17th century. But with the youngest, with Martha, it didn't work out ... Brightly and juicy recreating the image of Old Poland in the tradition of Sienkiewicz and Tetmayer, the authors deploy a mystical action against the backdrop of carefully written historical realities. An adventurous plot is combined in the novel with deep reflections on the nature of faith - and on whether the salvation of the soul is available to everyone. What if the devil, tired of temptations, wants to save his damned soul? ..
