Fifteen years ago, when the original 'Brief History...' was published, I was fresh out of engineering school and not immediately motivated to return to 'the books'. Thanks to the thousands who made this book a best seller, and to the publisher for bringing it, and an exquisitely illustrated version of it back for us to enjoy again. After reading 'Galileo's Daughter', it is refreshing to read the thoughts and ideas of a brilliant mind, uncensored and enhanced with top-notch graphics. We should applaud Professor Hawking's mission to share the advanced work of today's scientists with the masses. While even with illustrations, some of the material presented still prove to be quite a challenge, these volumes (The Illustrated A Brief History of Time, and The Universe In A Nutshell) will not collect dust as their beauty will bring readers to return to them in the future again and again. Oh, and this package is a steal at $40... Enjoy!
The richly illustrated and vividly presented ideas of modern physics and cosmology make Stephen Hawking Box Set an essential item for every personal or public library. One should also read other indispensable basic books in which the enigmatic relation between simplicity and complexity and the uncertain nature of perception are considered. The proper basic knowledge shows shorter pragmatic paths to success.
This book takes you inside the mind of a genius and helps us understand the workings of the universe from a scientific point of view. Excellent read for anyone who has a quest to know.
This is an updated version of Hawking's 1988 bestseller: A Brief History of Time. Stephen Hawking, the greatest physicist since Albert Einstein, introduces the laws and ideas describing the Universe to the general public. Beautiful pictures (absent from the 1988 version of the book) help the reader in understanding the key topics covered by the author. This very well written book is a must reference for your home/office/public/school library.
