Overview

The words of this book's title are said aloud every day by thousands of people meeting together to help each other recover from addictions. The addictions may be to alcohol or cocaine, gambling or food, violence or sex and love, but the path to recovery is the same. This is a book of plain-spoken wisdom for people with addictions and people who love them. Joe McQ has been a student of the Twelve Steps for twenty-eight years. He, like tens of thousands of others, lives them every day, one day at a time. In The Steps We Took, Joe takes us through them, one Step at a time, and helps us understand how they work—and how they can change our lives.

I was introduced to 'The Steps We Took' through my sponsor and fell in love with the book. It really gives a clear understanding of the steps for me. I have since used the book to help women that I have or am sponsoring. Thank you so much for a great gift!

I met Joe over 13 years ago at a Big Book study weekend, when he was teaching with Charlie P. I've had his book for over a decade, and have used it many time in my 12 step study-sessions with both AA's and Al-Anon's. Many people in recovery enjoy this book because it helps them to understand the 12 steps in a way which can help them with all their life problems. Joe's clarity, honesty and easy reading style makes it an enjoyable book for anyone interested in learning more about the 12 Steps. With close to four decades of sobriety, it's obvious Joe is passionate about his love for the recovery process and this comes through in his book.
