The fourth edition of this classic prosthodontic textbook features a new chapter on implant-assisted removable partial dentures as well as an in-depth chapter describing the Prosthodontic Diagnostic Index. As before, the text provides an overview of removable partial denture service in contemporary dental practice, with an emphasis on clinical and design aspects. Clinical topics range from examination and treatment planning to mouth preparation and prosthesis placement. Common design philosophies and a step-by-step method for partial denture design are presented. Also included are alternative removable partial denture therapies such as Swing Lock, dual path, and attachment-type prostheses. To facilitate visualization and understanding, the text is accompanied by numerous illlustrations. Like those that came before it, this edition is intended to help the student, the general practitioner, and the specialist consistently provide high-quality prosthodontic treatment for their patients.

Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer:Fong Wong, BSD, DDS, MSD(University of Florida College of Dentistry)
Description:This updated edition of a book covering removable partial denture prosthodontics provides many relevant photographs and illustrations to aid in understanding. The previous edition was published in 1992.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide students and practitioners with a basic understanding of all aspects of removable partial denture therapy and then apply these concepts in a clinical situation. These are worthy objectives, and the book presents students and practitioners with the theoretical understanding of removable partial denture prosthodontics and then applies this knowledge in a clinical situation. The book definitely meets the objectives.
Audience:The book is written for students, residents, and practitioners. The authors are credible authorities on this subject.
Features:There are many visual aids that are very effective in delivering the information. For example, the design of the removable partial dentures is illustrated and demonstrated with an actual metal framework on a stone model and exact drawings of designs on the stone models. There are also color photographs of design and survey in chapter 7; clinical photographs of procedures with patients and without patients; and demonstrations of laboratory procedures. The area of maxillofacial prosthodontics deserves a general introduction, but this topic is not included.
Assessment:Overall, the authors suggest techniques and opinions that are based on currently accepted prosthodontic practice. The book is well written and the text is accompanied by many colorand black-and-white illustrations of good clarity, an improvement from the previous edition.
