A story about courage and honor. A hero's journey, yet the hero is the dog who places all his trust in Muir. Read this to your children, then give them the book to treasure.

I loved this book so much! The story is captivating, and it's amazing how this tale is an actual journey that took place when Muir vistited Glacier Bay in the late 1870s and continued to visit the region his entire life. Being related to Muir, I felt a personal connection to his stories, and great perception of the glaciers he vistited, and nature in general. A great book for any avid outdoors person, or even a great book to read to younger children also!

This was so delightful. The poem at the beginning was lovely and the rest of the story, though short, was fun to read and to imagine Stickeen... I loved it

I first heard this story around a campfire as a teen, and have now had the pleasure of sharing it with my own kids and extended family while hiking the john Muir trail. Any dog lover will appreciate this story, and any hiker will marvel at the toughness of Muir and all the explorers that took on glaciers and mountaind in canvas and wool. Just a great read-out-loud for mixed generation campfires.
