Overview

In December 2011, Lauren (“Lolo”) Scruggs, a 23-year-old fashion journalist, suffered a sudden injury that made headlines around the world. She had been on a short flight to look at Christmas lights in a small plane piloted by a family friend—and upon exiting the plane, was hit by the still-moving propeller blade. A frantic 911 call, several major surgeries, and thousands of prayers later: Lauren lived. But she lost her left hand and left eye. And she had to face some incredibly difficult questions: What kind of future will I have? Where is God in all this pain? Will anyone ever be able to love me now? In Still Lolo, Lauren speaks out for the first time since her accident. She (along with her parents, Jeff and Cheryl Scruggs) reveal what really happened that night, what Lauren’s life is like today, what got them through their journey toward healing, and how they conquered all odds to persevere as a family. It’s a compelling and fiercely beautiful story of faith, determination, and staying true to who you are—no matter what.

Looking to be inspired to live out your dreams? Take a read!

We all want to believe that we would have the courage to survive a terrible accident; however, Lauren has the scars and story to prove she did. Still Lolo is a story of tragedy but also of triumph and never losing sight of your dreams.

I highly recommend this book! I appreciated how truthfully Lauren ( Lolo) Scruggs and her family told their story, the good, the bad and the horrific. Lolo was a 23 year old fashion journalist who was confident in her looks, her career and relationship with God, but that all changed in the blink of an eye. At Christmastime , she took a pleasure ride in a friend's airplane to see the lights. When she got off the plane, she was struck by the spinning propeller blade. There was much media attention and many false reports following the accident. This is the first Lolo herself has spoken of the accident, what really happened that night, the challenges she has faced since and what her life is like today.
This story isn't just about Lolo's accident however. The chapters are written from the different perspectives of different family members throughout their lives and their faith walk. The book takes you through the incredible birth story of Lolo and her twin sister Brittany, relives the painful story of their parents bitter divorce, their reunion after seven years of being apart, the dark days after the accident and most importantly how the family feels God has His hand over every aspect of their story.
Lolo is heart wrenchingly honest about her life. Prior to her accident, she believed in God and knew he had a plan for her life but still wanted to be able to do the things she wanted to do, the way she wanted to do them. The accident could have cost her life, but instead she lost her left eye and left hand. All aspects of her recovery was hard and in her book Lolo struggles to express just how dark that time was for her. She had times of anger, and lashed out at her parents and even doubted God. Slowly, with the help of her family and friends, she begins to realize that she doesn't have to be afraid of being different, it doesn't matter what others think of her and that God does have a plan for her through all that she went through.
I would especially recommend this book to young women who may be struggling with who they are, how they look and God's plan for their lives. It was very inspirational.

    WOW! This book is AMAZING!!!!
Lauren and her family candidly tell their story, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
From the remarkable birth of Lauren and her twin sister Brittany, to the sad story of their parents divorce, the forthright conversation throughout the book is refreshing!
Despite Laurens conviction that God has a perfect plan for her life is still not enough to keep her from doing things the way she wants to do them, not because she's a weak person but because she's human, but she comes back to him in humility and asks his forgiveness.
After finding forgiveness and acceptance her life seems to move along relatively smooth until the night of her tragic accident. After walking in to the propeller blade of their friends airplane, she loses her left eye and left hand, but she is lucky to have gotten away with her life.
While recovering from her accident she becomes angry with the whole situation, but with help from truly godly family and friends, she begins to quit being afraid of being imperfect, of being different, and as she wrote in her book, "TO BE TRULY OKAY WITH HOW OTHERS SEE YOU".
My admiration for Lauren Scruggs is off the charts!
This book is definitely inspirational, I'm SO glad that I read this book!!!!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers, I was not required to write a positive review.

Hmm…Still LoLo is difficult to rate. The story of the accident I learned about on television and other media is both terrifying and inspirational. Rate: A+. The book, on the other hand, feels like it only touches the surface of the story. I feel the shell of the story is scraped but the deepness of the tragedy and recovery wasn’t reached.  There is too much preliminary ‘stuff’ such as outer beauty, fashion, etc., and not enough of the inner pain and strength that could’ve made this story much more inspirational than it did.

This book could’ve provided an exceptional story but, to me, it is mediocre. Rate: C

Fashion Journalist and entrepreneur Lauren (LoLo) Scruggs feels

Fashion Journalist and entrepreneur Lauren (LoLo) Scruggs feels her life is just beginning when a tragic accident changes her forever.  The story of their lives both pre- and post-accident is told from the different perspectives of Lauren, her mother, father, and fraternal twin sister, Brittany.  This style of writing presents a unique "voice" that still is very cohesive, and overall gives a pretty clear picture of their family.

The family's faith in Jesus, even in the midst of severe challenge and trauma is a truly beautiful picture.  They are very real about their feelings and struggles, yet they still choose to cling to God, and trust that He is good.  All the time.

I had no idea I would begin this book only to put it down a few hours later - finished. I could not stop reading - well written, interesting, heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time, please get this book right now.  You will be glad you did.

    Faith, courage and community
Lauren Scruggs suffered horrific injuries when she walked into the propeller of a small plane in December of 2011. "Still LoLo" is her story, told from the viewpoints of her parents, her twin sister and Lauren herself.  The book describes her childhood years through the divorce and later remarriage of her parents and the growth of their faith - a faith which nurtured their daughters.  What happened the night of the accident and in the days following is told in great detail.  It's a story of the unshakeable faith of Lauren and her family and friends.  It's a story of her courage in pushing through to recovery and a new "normal" life. What struck me even more was the community that gathered around the Scruggs family and provided strength and support in many ways - by people who were close to the family and by many they had never met.  I would most heartily recommend this book.

Still Lolo was an okay read. I was kind of disappointed with it

Still Lolo was an okay read. I was kind of disappointed with it really. I wanted to read an inspiring story of faith, recovery, and redemption. I wanted to know more about Lauren Scruggs herself. I really did not care to read about her parents personal lives, their personal issues, infertility problems, divorce, etc.
Though the book was full of faith and inspiring at times but I was rather bored most of the time.

Fashion journalist Lauren Scruggs ("LoLo") is injured when she is struck by a propeller blade. The family's story is told in the book, starting with Lauren's childhood and through the accident.

I thought this was a good book. Lauren, both parents and twin sister Brittany take turns telling the story. It was heartwarming to read about all the people who prayed for the family, helped out in various ways, etc.

Lauren Scruggs and family Want a gift that gives long after

    Lauren Scruggs and family

Want a gift that gives long after the holidays are over? Buy this book. A four-and-half-star.

When a rogue propeller hits Lauren Scruggs, life as she knows it is shattered. Dreams put on hold. Her reality is changed forever. This tragedy attacks  the heart, the soul, and the spirit. Still Lolo takes a hard look at the beauty and strength within the human spirit and is a stunning testimony of His faithfulness.  The author's voice is simple, pure, and sweet.

Still Lolo follows the life of Lauren Scruggs taking a raw look at a family confronting tragedy. It is the story of survival and finding God in the lowest point and coming out on the other side triumphant. For me, this was a fresh look at pain and a lovely tale told by an overcomer: to look at the heart, to hear the moments of defeat and depression, to be struck by the fresh inspiration from scripture, and to trust Jesus for the next breathe, the next step, the next day.

Still Lolo is not a story to rush through. It is a book to be slowly absorbed. The reader feels the mother's shock, the father's frustration and pain, and the sister's faithfulness as she sits by Lolo's bedside and explains her new reality. Still Lolo opens the heart and focuses the reader on God's healing hand.

I received this book free from Tyndale Publishing.

An autobiographical first person retelling of the life of Lauren

An autobiographical first person retelling of the life of Lauren Scruggs and her family, "Still Lolo" was written in an easy to read format, very conversational. I did find it interesting how each chapter was told from a family member's perspective: most often from Lauren's, but quite a few times from her mom or dad and once or twice from the point of view of her twin sister, Brittany.
Although this is mainly their retelling of Lauren's accident of walking into a plane's propeller a few years back, her parents actually go even farther back in telling about their own relationship: marriage, divorce and reconciliation, and how that impacted their daughters' lives and in some ways prepared them for this time of trials.
However, the reason I'm only giving this an average rating is because there is also a lot of unnecessary "fluff" in the book. Maybe that's to be expected when a woman in her early twenties is writing an autobiography, but I just felt like all the name dropping and mentions of every single boy she dated or thought was cute was excessive. self-involved, and distracting.
I would not say this is a very inspirational book, but I'm sure many people would enjoy it. My favorite part was the last few chapters of the book where Lauren and her family describe life after the accident and how Lauren did discover some real meaning in her life and perhaps more clearly found her true Source of strength.

Still Lolo was an amazing book of courage, strength, perseverance and joy. In December of 2011, Lauren Scruggs (LoLo) had a life changing accident that made the news all over the world. She took a short flight to look at the Christmas lights over Dallas, Texas. Upon exiting the plane she was hit by the moving propeller. She lost her left eye and arm. The story of Lauren's parents and how they came back together after seven years and how the community came together through prayer and love during and after Lauren's accident. The author did an incredible job of showing us all how to depend on Jesus each and every day of our lives. I would read this book again!

I don't know what I was expecting, but I was very pleasantly surprised by this book.  It was inspiring and down-to-earth.  I had heard about Lauren's story on the news, but the book really made Lauren into a "real (relatable) person."  I'm a bit of a lapsed Catholic, but she has inspired me to give it another try.

    Fantastic book!
I had it for Christmas and couldn't get my hands of it! Every morning I would wake up early to read it!
Such a moving story, it's told by several members of the family and you get a hit about the true meaning of courage. I am so overjoyed about this book that I'm going to present it at my school's debate class... Reminds me of Bethany Hamilton.

Lauren and her entire family really takes us through their normal everyday life; straight up to the horrors of December 3, 2011. This family went through everything most faimlys don't have to go to. Lauren may never be the same again, but Lauren if you are reading this I want you to know that I will be rooting for you and your family. I have absolutly no idea what I would do if I were you. Go Lauren and LoLo Magazine. I will be looking it up.

    Inspirational!

This is a great read. How someone who is severely injured and deformed comes to the realization that life goes on. More than that, Lauren and her family, friends and others show us how God works in all our lives. The book takes something tragic and makes it inspirational. Read this book!
