Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
All of these riddles have something to do with skunks, and skunks as we know can be pretty stinky. The humor involves plays on words, so kids who will get the most out of this book will already have a command of the language and can understand when a word is a homonym or a variation on the correct word(s) to answer the riddle. Examples range from "How many skunks does it take to make a really bad stink?" (Only a phew.) to "What do you get if you cross a giant with a skunk?" (A BIG stink.). The humor is the type to drive parents crazy, but it has lots of boy appeal. The illustrations in cartoon style also convey the answer to the riddles. Teachers may have some fun by putting a riddle a day up on the board and letting kids try to come up with the correct answer. A Level 3 book in the "Dial Easy-To-Read" series.
