Editorial Reviews

Jim Jeske
Damian and Earl are locked in desperate competition for a 10-year supply of Jaguar Jetstreams, the newest high-status sneaker produced by the Feetfirst shoe factory. All they have to do is win Feetfirst's Stinky Sneakers contest. Damian, an only child whose rich but absent father rewards him with gifts for winning contests, packs his sneakers with limburger cheese and liverwurst to work up a noxious stench. Earl, not as wealthy and from a large family, relies on plain old-fashioned perspiration and abstention from foot washing to build up his fungal reek. Clearly, Damian is cheating, as he does in every competition he undertakes. Resentful Earl knows cheaters never prosper, but is the prize so tempting that his friendship with Damian must splinter? Peters presents a funny book with an enticingly disgusting premise that's a sure lure for the age group. Smith's cartoonlike drawings underscore the fun.
