Overview

Meet the StinkyKids®, a diverse group of 10 “little stinKers,” each with their own unique qualities. The StinkyKids series helps children learn to make right choices and reminds them to “Always Be A Leader Of Good.” Their heartwarming, funny and real–life adventures capture the true innocence of childhood and the lessons we learned through our mistakes—when we were just StinkyKids® ourselves.
Saturday was Britt’s favorite day. It was the day Britt had a playdate with her friends Hannah, Max and Julie. But this Saturday Britt had a secret. A secret she didn’t want to tell her mommy and daddy. A secret that could stop her favorite playdate from happening!
The “little stinKers” try their best to help Britt with her secret. Along the way, they learn that sometimes secrets need a parent’s help to solve.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Kids and scissors sometimes can suggest trouble. Britt, Hannah, Max, and Julie (four of the StinkyKids) learn about handling a problem involving scissors. At Julie's house, the foursome have a playdate. While pretending to own a haircut shop, Hannah, Max, and Julie find out why Britt is sad. Britt has a wad of chewing gum stuck in her hair. Hannah, Max, and Julie each have an idea to help Britt get the gum out of her ponytail. They end up cutting the gum out of Britt's hair; however, Britt's hair is sticking out in different directions. The children learn that sometimes, they really need an adult's help to resolve problems. The cartoon-like illustrations are colorful and fill the pages in a way that children in a group read-aloud setting may easily see the pictures. On the end pages, there is a brief description along with a picture of each StinkyKid. Read the introduction to understand how the author derived the group's name. The "StinkyKids" series provides different decision-making situations to help children with social issues. At the back of the book, there are suggestions for initiating a discussion with children. I bought it for my 2 young nephews, who are 6 and 3. They ask their mom to read it to them every night. Not only do they love the pictures and the fun story, their mom likes it because it has a great message behind it, to always be "a leader of good."

The storybook had bright, beautifully depicted graphics that were very interesting to look at. My children kept looking at the background of the pictures on the pages and seeing what else they could see. My daughter spotted a picture of Jen and Britt on Britt's nightstand. They love the eye candy in behind the scenes as much as the story itself. I thought the message being shared was a very groovy message to incorporate into our children. The innocence in which the children behaved was also refreshing, the children worked TOGETHER to help solve Britt's problem. The children did not ridicule her or make her feel less than herself, they propped her up and told her that together they could find the solution. I also enjoyed how the parents handled the situation, with calm, cool heads and didn't admonish Britt, but explained why her actions were incorrect and how she should have acted in the situation she found herself in. I would give this book a five out of five on the children's picture book scale, it has an enjoyable story, great colours throughout and a satisfying ending. It can be found at Barnes & Noble! The books are recommended for children 10 and under and the dolls are great for any age!

The StinkyKids motto is to "Always Be A Leader Of Good." The story is very well written and touches on so many different life lessons because let's face it, we can be the best parents in the world but our children are always going to test the limits and do things we don't approve of. The real test is how they handle themselves when they are found out, are they honest and tell us the truth or will they try to deceive? The StinkyKids are great role models for my little ones and I love their motto, I have started repeating it to my daughter. She loves this book and wants to read about the StinkyKids several times a day. One of her favorite things is the pictures of all the StinkyKids in the front and back, she likes to read about them and what they like to do. When they have something in common with her, she gets so excited. Of course, she wants ALL of the StinkyKids to play with!

I am a third grade teacher and I bought StinkyKids and the Runaway Scissors to read to my third grade students. I read the book to my students today, and they loved it! The students not only loved the book, but this book lent it self to a great mini lesson of predicting outcomes. The students were having a blast predicting what they thought would happen next. They had some great ideas! We also discussed what it meant to be a "leader of good" and I plan on using this as a writing prompt next week. The students asked when there were going to be more books in the Stinkykids series! I am so glad I came across you and your book in the mall last week, it really sparked great conversation with my class (and they are a tough crowd!) Please let me know if / when more Stinkykids books are coming out.
