Yet hers is a magic great enough to shake the earth, great enough to topple kings from their thrones, perhaps even great enough to free the gods from their ancient prisons-if only she can free herself first. Rodhlann is among the last of the Daiesthai, a race of inhuman sorcerers who bled the gods of their magic in order to enjoy limitless power and eternal life. But now, after untold centuries, the Daiesthai have lost the will to live. Only Rodhlann resists oblivion's siren song. Only he dares to dream of a future for his kind. Wonderful writing, great story...the only thing that would make

Wonderful writing, great story...the only thing that would make it four stars instead of five is the fact that it frequently jumps around to different characters and you have to read through their thoughts, feelings, and so forth before getting back to the main heroine. In some ways it gives the story depth, in other ways it just annoys me to no end.

    Incredible writing, amazing story!

Gripping, intelligent and beautifully written, this is fantasy for adults. The story of a plain slave girl who is more surprised than anyone at the scope of her developing powers, and of an ageless being who is struggling not to become tired of life. With numerous other characters struggling with both physical and emotional handicaps, you'll find images in STONE MAIDEN will stay with you long after you've finished. Highly recommended; read it now!

    Interesting story...

Interesting story with good characters. Felt like the end was a little anticlimactic after all the characters go through to get to the end. Wish there was more for the characters to look forward to than implied.

Beautiful Story! I will admit that in the begining of the book

    Beautiful Story!

I will admit that in the begining of the book I thought, "I can't believe I actually found a book by Ann Aguirre that I don't like!" but since I was familliar with her other books, I decided to keep reading and I am very glad I did!

Stone Maiden is told from more than one point of view and at first, they seem like they have nothing to do with each other, but throughout the story Ann Aguirre weaves the world together beautifully! By the end of one chapter, you get frustrated that its switching viewpoints, but then you realize that this next chapter is just as absorbing, and by the end of that, it happens all over again.

The end of the book, like someone else said, is bittersweet. Its the kind of ending that makes you let out the breath you didn't know you were holding, leaves your eyes watery, doesn't let you let go, and leaves your mind both racing and numb.

    Fantasy? More like lucid dreaming...

Read this book. Read it. Then shiver deliciously at the possibility of it...
