Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This very colorful volume with child-like illustrations will slow down readers due to its use of the color as typeface. Because it is a book to be read aloud and not just looked at, this flaw materially interferes with the success (and pleasure) the reader will find in its pages. The book describes the very unhappy monarch, Stoneheart. His is a kingdom of only cloudy days and unhappy people. The arrival of two-year-old Emily saves them from their misery. Emily is a living Valentine, with her dress and her magic box of Valentines that can never be emptied. 1997, Addax Publishing Group, $14.95. Ages 4 to 8. Reviewer: Carolyn C. Michaels
