Calvin Owens is not ready to retire just yet, as he more than aptly displays with his captivating creation Stop Lying in My Face. The cross genre, along with the equally impressive, intertwined genre blending serve to display the highly creative part of the arranger/composer that is Calvin Owens. Some of his best work can be found on this tremendously appealing release. If one doesn't agree that this is his best work, then one will certainly agree that Calvin Owens is creating music that is original and keeping with the ever-changing times. The powerful funk electric guitar that intros "Stop Lying in My Face" is an exquisite representation of what the groove is to be. The drum beat has a strong drive that keeps the tempo at an ultimate high. The horn section blows the barn doors off their hinges with some smoking chops. The blues-jazz-flavored number, "Double Dealing," is beautifully colored by the melodic vocals from the charming Trudy Lynn. The compliment of a full orchestra adds to the depth of this amazing composition, which is guaranteed to get any audience on their feet rocking to the beat. "Stop Lying in My Face - Instrumental" is an excellent choice with which to close this amazing album. The melody is contagious and once within it's grasp one finds it hard to find release, but why would they want to lose such a magnanimous feeling? The solid groove and genre variety, not to mention the amazingly talented musicians performing on the album, make this a piece of audio art that is sure to appeal to listeners from many age groups. To the learned musician, this album displays that the musical creative road contains many crossroads that one can branch from. Calvin Owens has the unique ability to creatively take these twist and turns with the grace that few can achieve. Wisdom and age are certainly factors that contribute to the creative knowledge that he brings to the album. The God-given talent and determination for perfection that Calvin Owens, the composer, arranger, singer, and musician, strives for is what keeps the listener coming back with each new release.
