Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Denise Daley
The Greek God Hades is the immortal King of the Underworld. He knows the real story of Theseus and the Minotaur. Zeus wants everyone to believe that the mortal Theseus slayed the half-man, half-bull Minotaur monster. But in this humorous story, Hades tells how Theseus is a forgetful sixteen-year-old and the Minotaur wants simply to practice his wrestling. Hades enjoys watching wrestling and is trying to hire players for his new Underworld Wrestling Federation. Hades gets the idea to travel in an attempt to recruit some bullies for his team. Along the way he meets his brother Poseidon. Poseidon confides that the naive, arrogant, and young Theseus may be his son, and he asks Hades to secretly monitor and help Theseus. This is no easy task, considering Theseus' ignorance and bragging. Will Hades help Theseus evade the wrestling Minotaur and still become a king, as the mythology books maintain? What kind of ruler would Theseus be, anyway? And will Hades ever coordinate the dynamite wrestling matches that he so desires? Readers will be thoroughly entertained by this amusing and creative version of the Greek myth. It is part of the "Myth-O-Mania" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley
