With more than one million copies sold, this series has been a huge Scholastic Book Clubs success. Klein presents a diverse community of 1st graders facing real issues that matter to this age group.

All the kids in Freddy's class want to be chosen to take home the class hamster for the weekend. Freddy can hardly believe his good luck when he is chosen. But he's forgotten that his mom is a total Neat Freak and can't stand the idea of having animals in the house. Can Freddy hide the hamster from his mom? And what will happen when the hamster gets loose and starts running around the house? (They always do.) Join Freddy in a typical first-grade adventure filled with humor perfect for this reading age.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carol Ann Lloyd-Stanger
Freddy is thrilled it is his turn to take the class hamster home next weekend. Even though his mom does not allow animals in the house, Freddy assures his teacher he can take Harold. He manages to convince his mom everything will be fine because he will keep Harold in his cage and take really good care of him. He invites his friend Robbie to spend the weekend and help take care of Harold and even agrees to let his sister help. But in the middle of the night, Freddy wakes up to discover Harold is gone. The house is full of excellent hamster hideouts. How can Freddy and Robbie find the small pet? And can they trust Suzie to help them look without snitching to Mom and Dad? This title in the "Ready, Freddy" reading series has an engaging story with plenty of humor and kid-size adventures. McKinley's illustrations do a great job displaying the personalities of the characters. Readers can continue the fun with enrichment activities at the end of the book.

I have a super crush! I've danced with him twice, but I asked him! And that was for fun. I want him to notice me (in a good way). My friends don't really help me. They just asked him if he liked me and all he did was glare at me. He ignores me at school and never talks to me. I'm not asking for a serious relationship, but just so he likes me. A girl at school told me that love was to complicated. I'm really not sure what to do. I'm in middle school and am going to high school with him. What to do?

Well the question is do you still wanna be friends with him? If you would think it would be akwrd than stay away from him for a while. Theres absaloutley nothing wrong if you still choose to be friends wih him. Its your choce. And this new guy. Does he show any signs of liking you? I mean you dont wanna loose your old boyfriend fir this other guy if your not even sure he likes you. I thibk you should focus on the fact if you got deep feelings for this new guy. So id say you ca sill be friends with that guy if you chooseto break up ad if this new guy shows any sihns of liking you than yake it as an advantae and ask him out. If not stick with ur guy foa now. But remeber if u d break up with ur bf dont leave him in the dust. Cause thas rude just be friend. Cause wat if he dumped u for anithee girl ad didnt even talk to u after that? Hope i helped ~Carter

The Ready Freddy books are written by an author that is a teacher and a parent. They are written in a very realistic way that depicts how kids really act. She does a good job of throwing in a little lesson, too, with each of her books. I almost feel like it is written specifically for my child.
