The need to stop rape is pressing and, since it is the outcome of a wide range of practices and institutions in society, so too must the policies be to stop it This important book offers a comprehensive guide to the international policies developed to stop rape , together with case study examples on how they work. The book engages with the law and criminal justice system, health services, specialised services for victim-survivors, educational and cultural interventions, as well as how they can best be coordinated. It is informed by theory and evidence drawn from scholarship and practice from around the world.

About the Author

The book is written by scholars from around the world, led by Sylvia Walby: Philippa Olive, Jude Towers, Brian Francis, Sofia Strid, Andrea Krizsán, Emanuela Lombardo, Corinne May-Chahal, Suzanne Franzway, David Sugarman, Bina Agarwal and Jo Armstrong. Walby is a Distinguished Professor of Sociology and UNESCO Chair in Gender Research, at Lancaster University and has received funding from UN Women, UNECE, European Parliament, European Institute for Gender Equality, Council of Europe, Home Office, and ESRC.
Sylvia Walby is Professor of Criminology in the School of Law and Social Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London and holds the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Anneliese Maier Research Award.
Philippa Olive is Doctor of Sociology, Senior Research Fellow in Health Services Research at the University of Central Lancashire.
Jude Towers is Doctor of Applied Social Statistics, Senior Research Associate at Lancaster University and Associate Director Violence&Society UNESCO Centre.
Brian Francis is Professor of Social Statistics at Lancaster University and Associate Director Violence&Society UNESCO Centre.
Sofia Strid is Associate Professor of Gender Studies at Örebro University and Co-Director GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies.

Suzanne Franzway is Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at the University of South Australia. Her research focusses on sexual politics, greedy institutions, gendered violence and citizenship, and epistemologies of ignorance. She is a scholar activist in the area of women and work, serving on NGOs and is founding member of the UNESCO Women’s Studies and Gender Studies Research Network.
