Meet the Author

Gail Damerow and her husband operate a family farm in Tennessee, where they keep poultry and dairy goats, tend a sizable garden, and maintain a small orchard. Damerow has written extensively on raising livestock and is a regular contributor to Backyard Poultry magazine.     Wow!!

    Almost overwhelming in its detail, this book is great for anyone considering raising chickens. My grandmother kept chickens, but I never realized how complex it is. This book will serve as a guide and reference if I decide to go ahead with plans for establishing my own flock.

    Go To Book for Raising Chickens

    This book has everything but the chickens! It would make a great reference book for anyone raising chickens whether they be pets or a small business raising them for eggs or the table. Housing and space suggestions are discussed. The section on diseases is especially helpful and gives suggestions for treatment. I checked it out from the library first and was so impressed that I brought it with me to the store and picked up my own before returning it.

    A must for those considering raising chickens

    This book has every scenario a would be chicken farmer might face whether they are starting a backyard flock or going more large scale. Some of the details seem intimidating but it is important to be informed before you get started. This is the first book we bought while the others we just borrowed from the library.
