This is the one to get! This is the updated version of Paula Simmons' sheep raiser's bible; Raising Sheep The Modern Way, which I had relied on as a beginning shepherdess. This new book has even more information and is highly readable, covering many different breeds, feeding and housing, breeding season and lambing, pasture management, diseases and health care, types of herding and guarding dogs, and recipes for cooking lamb. This book will save you money in vet bills by giving you advice on preventive maintenance, and will accompany you to the barn on many occasions as you learn to care for your sheep. If you can get only one book on sheep, get THIS one!
