    a master story teller

This book contains most of Caldwell's best stories.Despite his plain style Caldwell displays great mastery over nearly all of them.Since they seem simple in style at first sight, they may require careful reading for they usually carry deep meanings and symbols of American experience.Whereas The Medicine Man is a funny story,Kneel to the Rising Sun is bloodcurdling;and while reading Martha Jean you feel great pity.If you are a Caldwell fan,it is a must buy.
