Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eric Slay
This is a delightful story about a mom and her children on a stormy day. From the first rain drop, to the thrilling thunder and lightning, to the puddles ready to jump in the next day, the author takes readers through an exciting storm. While there is no out-of-the-ordinary adventure here, the author does an excellent job making the coming-and-going of a typical storm fun throughout this sparsely-worded title. Words such as boom, bang, pitter, pat, rumble, pound, etc., all make for an excellent read-aloud and consequently an excellent lesson on onomatopoeia if you are so inclined. Adding to the author's highly-visual word choices are attractive illustrations that give this book a really playful feel that kids are sure to love. Because there is not too much text, this book would be an excellent choice as an independent reader for a first grader, or as an exciting read-aloud for a kindergarten or pre-school class.
