Of all the superlatives I've used in reviewing these books, I have to say this one tops them all. The story comes to a thrilling pause on its way to the next Arc, which Janny says will be out in the Fall. "Initiate's Trial." I can hardly wait! Even though there is no cliff hanger here, the story must continue. I felt such sadness to come to the end (temporary, to be sure) of my time spent in the world of Athera. Sigh. You've got to read these books. In order, please.

The "final" book of the Alliance of Light is not the end of the story and there are so many unanswered questions that are not answered in the next book which takes place 250 years after the end of Fortress. The books are great - lots of action and character development, but what happens to Davien? There are several similarities to The Wheel of Time series including "passing the Wheel" signifying death. So, we go on and I hope for some closure.

Janny Wurts falls back into her genius with Stormed Fortress--now finally available in the US! Ms. Wurts is an author who writes with infinite skill so these books are never a quick read as in escapisms, but every word is important and she builds and shapes a world that has more depth than most. Importantly, in ending this arc, she picks up the pace once more, and you will be unlikely to be able to put it down. A wonderful tale all around but be sure to start with the first story in the series (Curse of the Mistwraith). If you don't, you'll miss out on much and not understand many of the intricacies occurring.

Territory
It is quite hard to place exactly where Pandemonium is. The territory is rather expansive, including a variety habitats from mountains to forests. In the northern reaches of the territory, several snowcapped mountain ranges lays, reaching high into the sky, seemingly going o for a very long time. In the east portion of the territory, there is the soothing sound of waves, crashing along the beach. The powerful ocean is there, testing the cats' endurance and the capabilities, especially with plenty of coves nearby. However, the southern piece is different as well, merging into a vast grassland. Right at the fringes of the territory resides a large, clear lake, perfect for fishing and finding water based herbs. Also, at the western border, there shows to be a lot of hills, a plateau. The tallest of these hills is nearest the forest, allowing easy access to a view point to watch for enemy attacks and each portion of the territory, in and within itself, gives Pandemonium an easy way to protect its extensive borders. Connecting the sections is a large forest, with many a running river flowing through it. Where camp resides is unknown, even the territory surrounding camp is unknown, except to those who know the territory well.

~LB

The Stormshadow packs ancestors are called the Star pack. We follow the Way Of The Wolf. It is our code. Here it is: 1: Pups must be twelve moons before they begin their training. 2: The pup is able to choose whether they want to be a fighter or hunter. If, later in their training, they lack the skill needed for the duty they chose, they will switch over to the other job. 3: Hunters may not fight, and fighters may not hunt. 4: Healers can have mates, as long as it doesn't interfere with their work. 5: If a beta dies or retires, a new one must be named before moonhigh. Stormshadows territory lay in the forest, with a mountain on the edge of it. We make our camp in a cave on the bottom of the mountain. Tunnels lead to all the dens. Our diet consists of deer, moose, and other such prey tht lives in the area. There are smaller snacks, such as rabbits or birds.~Vision
