Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Harrison follows Dragon Bound with this entertaining but uneven paranormal romance. When Dark Fae princess Niniane Lorelle, aka Tricks, survives an assassination attempt, ancient Wyr warrior and thunderbird Tiago Black Eagle is sent to Chicago to protect her. Niniane knows that she needs to stand on her own two feet if she has any hope of claiming the throne, but she finds herself depending on Tiago for more than safety. Tiago is just as drawn to her and vows to keep her safe and discover who wants her dead. Despite a slow-moving plot, the mix of supernatural creatures makes for interesting world-building, politics, and relationships. Romance readers who enjoy alpha male characters will no doubt like the sexy, smoldering Tiago, but those in search of a more balanced, less possessive relationship may want to look elsewhere. (Aug.)

Redonk Nutshell: Ascending faery princess reluctantly accepts protection from ancient friend amidst several conspiracy attempts to assassinate her Firstly, if you haven't read Dragon Bound, the first in the Elder Races series, GET ON IT. It's amaaaaaaazing. Storm's Heart is the next installation in the series, chronicling Niniane, aka "Tricks" and Tiago, and their unwelcome attraction to one another. I say unwelcome, but I don't think that's quite the right word. Forbidden is probably more appropriate. Niniane has recently come out of hiding in order to ascend to the Dark Fae throne, a prospect she hasn't really been looking forward to. When she leaves the safety of her Wyr friends in NYC to go to Chicago, she is immediately attacked and goes back into hiding. This of course infuriates the Wyr, and Tiago takes it upon himself to go find her. From there, he sticks like glue to her side, and the two of them work together to get to the bottom of the attacks against her. I had high expectations for Storm's Heart, being that I fell head over heels for Dragon Bound. I was bummed out when I found myself struggling to stay invested in the story. The pacing is slower from Dragon Bound, and I found myself glazing over several times throughout. There were a few great funny moments, however, Tricks being one not to disappoint with her outrageous ways. What had me scratching my head, though, was how these two had known each other for so long but only now started to have hardcore attraction to each other. I wasn't really buying it. I was glad when I finished Storm's Heart, feeling obligated to stick it out because of my adoration from it's predecessor. I know. I'm weird. Nonetheless, it was a fun read, though it didn't quite meet up to the bar I had set. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the third, Serpent's Kiss, which is set up in Storm's Heart and looks to be a fun romp. I really liked the first book with Dracos and Pia, but was somewhat disappointed with this one. Although I liked parts of the book, I felt it dragged in places as well. More developed characters would help to make it a fuller novel. It has some good parts of course, and does help the reader move into the 3rd book of Serpent's Kiss, which is a more well written and developed book. I wanted to like this one more than I did, but felt it could have been better.

I like the couples they aren't annoying or stupid. I like the story line. The couples are different from each story line so I enjoy that. I also like that each couple has different obstacles and issues. It a good read.

I really enjoyed this book. After reading the first book in the Elder Races Series I knew I had to pick up Storm's Heart. The characters have depth and you can connect with them. There is sizzle to the book and a solid plot. If you looking for a fun read with romance and intrigue grab a book by Thea Harrison.

4star ssssssizzler! All of the Elder Races thought there would be trouble when long lost heir to the Dark Fae throne Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle/Niniane Lorelle ascended. What they didn’t know was that she’d come to claim her throne with her own personal Wyr Warlord in the form of T-Bird/Dr. Death. Tricks & Dr. Death (Tiago Black Eagle) were great together while living the adage of opposites attract as every aspect of their looks and personalities were opposite. The hazards of political intrigue, assassination attempts and roiling emotions serve as a perfect backdrop for this volatile couple to find their way to the land of HEA. The absurdity of some of Trick’s shallow antics felt true as they made you laugh out loud and commiserated with Tiago as he could only shake his head. They also underscored the growth arc for her character. The layers unraveling the assassination plot were expertly woven with the layers of the romance making both very satisfying threads for the overall story. There are brief peeks at the secondary characters bringing us up to date and laying the foundation for the next installment.

I should have written this review as soon as I finished listening to the book. But I didn't because I was too impatient to dive into the next book.  Now I just want to babble on about how excellent this series is becoming. Because it is.  In the first book, Dragon Bound, we are introduced to this world where Elder Races, such as shifters aka Wyr, Elves, Fae, Vampires, Witches, Goblins and all manner of species co-exist. Not always peacefully, but as an integral part of the world.  The Wyr are headed by Dragos, a massive dragon and he has 7 Sentinels, all winged creatures like himself, to assist him with his rule. Dragon Bound is Dragos' mating story and the start of an interesting world. This story picks up threads from the last book dealing with the death of the Dark Fae ruler. The rightful heir is stepping forward to claim the throne that was stolen from her when her family was butchered. Thing is, that heir has been hiding for over 200 years as a member of Drago's staff. Specifically his PR Manager - Tricks. Now that Tricks has come forward to claim the throne, her life is in constant danger. But she can't allow Dragos to assist her, no looking like she is a puppet to the Wyr, or her life will be a constant battle for survival. Tiago, Dragos' Warlord and a Thunderbird, knows Tricks. But Tiago was usually busy being a Warlord in the field - sometimes continents away - and hasn't spent very much time with the little spitfire. However, when he sees footage of her being stabbed while fighting off an assassination attempt, he realizes he has to protect her, no matter what. The passion strikes between the two of them as hot as lightening. Unfortunately, politics works to push them apart. It will take some amazing feats of finesse and diplomacy to be together. The narration on this was wonderful. Ms. Eastlake does a tremendous job of making sure that we can differentiate between characters. She brings each one to life in a way that adds to the story. I am so glad that I finally took a chance on this series. I gave this book 4 stars.

It took centuries for them to notice each other, apparently he would disappear for decades and would only return to the tower for moments and disappear again. But once he notices her, he definitely won't give up on her despite that the Dark Fae would accept him as her King. Tricks is hilarious I really enjoyed her character and she would interact with him.

I liked the first book just fine, but this book just made me want the whole series.  I really enjoyed this one.  I love Tiago and what he’s capable of as a Thunderbird.  Niniane is cute and fierce – deadly in her own right.  Their chemistry is scorching and I adored them together.   The conflict was a little predictable and all, but that’s really my only complaint.  I loved the different species and the travel to other lands.  There’s action, romance, and mystery – what’s not to love? Storm’s Heart is an emotional ride that will leave you hooked on the series and anxious for your next hit.  With characters that are sexy and cool and an exciting plot, you won’t be disappointed with this awesome read!
