Becky has no blue ribbons because her horse, Stormy, has trouble jumping certain fences - like the ones with flower boxes.

One day Hannah has an accident and cannot ride! This is Becky's chance to win, if she can help Stormy overcome her fear of fences. Although Hannah offers Becky tons of riding advice, it is hard for Becky to admit that little-miss-perfect may be right.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Andrea Williams
This addition to the "Stablemates" series is the perfect choice for horse lovers. Becky's show horse Stormy is a reluctant jumper who rarely wins ribbons. In this story, the horse achieves something even more important, helping to mend the relationship between Becky and her sister Hannah. When a riding accident puts Hannah the blue-ribbon rider out of a competition, Becky jumps at the opportunity to win. Hannah passes her time critiquing Becky about the way she is training her horse. Then, Becky finds Hannah in the horse stall crying. She questions her sister and finds that she is saddened to be hurt and away from her American Paint Horse, Casey. The girls share their feelings and find that their bitter attitudes have been a misunderstanding. From then on, the two girls work together to prepare Stormy for the competition. In the course of training the fearful horse to trust its rider, the girls find friendship. Soft color illustrations of the girls and their horses add to the idea that an enemy can be a friend; all it takes is empathy and forgiveness. Reviewer: Andrea Williams
