I was conflicted while reading this novel, The Story in the Star

I was conflicted while reading this novel, The Story in the Stars by Yvonne Anderson. On one hand the book was fantastic – terrific writing and a plot that pulled me in right from the start and did not let go until the very end. But on the other hand, there were times where I felt that the authors attempt to push her religious message spoke louder than the story, and I feel it was a tad heavy handed at times. I would have preferred more subtlety – more nuances. Let the reader come to the conclusion ourselves without it constantly being spoon fed to us. But fortunately I only felt this is a few places, and other than that I really thought this to be an amazing book and I cannot wait to read the next one, Words in the Wind!

Definitely not your usual SciFi novel! Forget any expectations

Definitely not your usual SciFi novel! Forget any expectations or
preconceived notions about what to expect when reading The Story in the
Stars. Just forget them because you will be totally blown away by this
incredible epic tale! It’s not often that I am this impressed with an
author (especially a debut!) but Ms. Anderson is insanely talented and
it shines through in her writing. The world building was magnificent,
and I felt like I could picture every scene and character perfectly. I
thought the pacing was spot on, and I was hooked from start to finish.
This book definitely has a Christian theme and message so if that’s not
your thing than this might not be the best book for you. But for
everyone else it is a definite MUST READ.

Story in the Starts struck an inspirational vision on how we each have a choice - stick with our original been done wrong story or create a new one where compassion and forgiveness take hold. This book takes it to an extreme, with entire groups impacted / decimated and how to find common ground. Yvonne Anderson's talent brings it all - a spicy mix of adventure, love, learning, discipleship and imagination!

    Beautifully haunting.

Amazed at the depth and insight within The Story in the Stars, I feel the careful offering through this novel to its readers will linger for a long, long time. At least it will with me. Almost like an allegory of conflicting cultures during another time and place, resembling sad historical incidents we (Earthers) have witnessed before in the name of racial intolerance, annihilation, this story is haunting yet triumphant. At times, when the tale turns grim, the author's eloquent style conveys a poignant spiritual message or notion that strikes your heart in a way that is both beautiful and unforgettable. I fell in love with the planet Gannah in all its savage yet striking ways. And I deeply appreciated the Hebraic tie-in to Dassa's world. You must read this book! If Gannah existed, I'd find a way to live there. I'm hungry to know more and can't wait until the second installment of Anderson's "Gateway to Gannah" series.

    Ingenious Entertainment

Timeless truth shines in the fantastic sci-fi, The Story in the Stars. Few debut novels so successfully illumine entertaining narrative with ingenious writing. Anderson captivates readers from exciting start to satisfying finish with her realistic characters, dialogue, and settings. Well worth your moderate investment and precious time!

    Epic Galactic Adventure

Mix together a deadly plague with a snarky hero-one sporting abnormally large ears. Then throw in an independent heroine who's lost everything, and you've got a blue-ribbon recipe for a winning debut novel. The Story in the Stars is sci-fi at it's best with plenty of action, unbelievable landscapes, and a message that is hard hitting. Don't miss Yvonne Anderson's first installment in the Gateway to Gannah series, now available by Risen Books.
