"A wonderful translation!"  —Write Wild blog
Children's Literature - Denise Daley
Who would have thought that a cockroach's life could be so complicated? Anastasia the Cockroach gives readers a detailed and interesting description of a cockroach's life. She tells how they have been in existence for over three hundred thousand years and how they can have up to four hundred children in their lifetime. Anastasia explains that even though cockroaches were considered sacred in Egypt, today they are mostly considered a nuisance. One day a Fairy hears Anastasia complaining about her situation, so she magically transforms the pesky cockroach into a human princess. Being a princess, however, is not as glamorous as Anastasia had hoped, so the Fairy turns Anastasia back into a cockroach. This time she is quite content living as a cockroach but when confronted with a life threatening situation; Anastasia decides to make the ultimate sacrifice. Readers will identify with Anastasia as she learns to accept and appreciate herself for what she is. The beautiful illustrations are creative and whimsical and the story is both original and deeply moving. Reviewer: Denise Daley
