Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Elizabeth Young
Baseball aficionados have hit the mother lode with this new series from Creative Education, "Baseball: the Great American Game." The San Francisco Giants haven't always called themselves Giants. From 1883 until today this team has had its ins and outs, as well as ups and downs. Baseball fans will learn of such great players as Christy Mathewson, John McGraw, Buck Ewing, Barry Bonds and Tim Lincecum among others. There are many statistics and background stories about rivalries and controversial plays and players. The book is larger than many non-fiction books and includes many photographs. However, the placement of some images and side boxes interrupt the flow of the text, making it a bit of a challenge to follow through. Non baseball fans will not enjoy this as much as fans will, as understanding the game and familiarity with baseball terminology is a requirement, along with a love, or at least a strong like, for America's past time. Still, it is a great addition for the sports library. Reviewer: Elizabeth Young
