    Mind-blowing...

Novel writing approached in such a fresh way. No gimmicks, no formulas, and yet so much more than inspirational fluff. Very different than most of the other writing books I've read (and I've read plenty).

Excellent resource (especially for those who don't outline)

I'm not all the way through yet, but so far this book contains helpful and encouraging information. Before I read an article by the author, Steven James, in Writers Digest magazine, I didn't know there were writers like me who write "by the seat of their pants" instead of using an outline. I didn't know that how I write actually has a name: organic writing. Some writing books are helpful, a few I wonder why I spent my money on them, this one is like gold to me. It helps me develop my writing as the writer I am. It doesn't tell me to change who I am as a writer (do this exercise, make an outline, follow this structure). Highly recommend, especially if you're under the impression outlining is a necessary evil.
