Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"John and Caitlín Matthews’ StoryWorld is a very ingenious idea. I’ve seldom seen so many attractive and intriguing starting points (and ending points and signposts to suggest new paths) so well presented."
- Philip Pullman, author of His Dark Materials trilogy — Quote
Children's Literature - Ellen Welty
Creative writing instructors often begin a lesson by showing the class a picture or reading a brief description of an event or an object. Teachers of middle school students in particular will appreciate this kit, an ingenious tool for helping their students begin creative writing. Part of the "Story World" series, the kit has an instruction booklet that features a story created by using the incorporated cards—there are twenty-eight included in the set—and information for individuals or groups to use them to craft stories. The front of each card depicts a primary character or artifact in a scene with other characters or magical objects. The reverse side describes the character or one of the magical objects and asks some questions to help writers and storytellers imagine a scene or perhaps a complete story. Storytellers are instructed to use one or more of the cards to help create a story. The illustrations range from lighthearted and joyous to dark and disturbing and the variety of possibilities for scenarios is endless. This should get the creative juice flowing for would-be story tellers. The other titles in the series include Christmas Tales, Tales from a Haunted House, and Legends of the Sea.
