My Review: Stover is a pig who enjoys a healthy life style and he wants to show children just how healthy they can become having fun exercising. He starts his day with playing in the mud then off to take a shower and then eats a healthy breakfast before he goes to the gym. When at the gym Stover takes part in a variety of exercises. He is determined to eat right and stay in shape.

Toward the end of the book the author gives two check list related to Fitness and Food for kids to do. The check list includes questions about what is "good health?" How can you tell if you're healthy? Why is it necessary to ear? What fun, healthy snack and recipes can you make? and much more. These are questions you can sit down with your children and discuss. They will encourage your children to think about exercising and eating healthy.
The soft pastel colors and bright illustration by Cameron Bennett which reminds me of Dick and Jane. This book promotes conversations about the issues of unhealthy eating and lack of exercise facing children and families today.
Kathy Brodsky stated that exercise and good nutrition are keys to bring healthy. I highly recommend this book for family and classroom reading.

FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.

    What A Determined Little Pig!

What a determined little pig this Stover is! He really takes good care of himself and wants to be healthy, both of which are such important messages for kids to learn at an early age. Once again, I like how the author includes fun verse and colorful illustrations to tell her story, and includes great discussion questions at the end, too, to continue the conversation with kids. Nice job, Ms. Brodsky!

    Not Your Average Pig Story

We often hear tales of pigs wallowing in the mud and perhaps the most impressive pig only became a bit of a celebrity due to his little spider friend. Meet Stover, an on-the-ball young pig who is determined to be fit and healthy in spite of what others might expect of him. He is involved in all kinds of fitness activities, and is a great character to introduce youngsters to the many ways in which they can enjoy physical activity and exercise. Key words: healthy and fit; this story is all about eating right, taking care of yourself and being active while having some fun. With all the current talk on childhood obesity, lack of exercise and maintaining a better diet, this little pig may inspire everyone in the barnyard and the farm itself (animals and people) to get out there and get active.

Brodsky once again partners with illustrator Cameron Bennett who brings colorful fun images to flesh out her rhyming tale in the most wonderful way. There's questions for discussion, which both youngsters and adults are sure to enjoy and build on.
