Overview

Straight A's in Anatomy and Physiology is an excellent review for the NCLEX® and for fundamentals and health assessment courses from the LPN through the BSN level. It follows the unique, highly visual two-column Straight A's format—an in-depth outline review in the inner column and a quick-scan key points refresher in the outer column. Other study aids include "Top 10" Lists that save students time before exams, Time-Out for Teaching tips on patient teaching, Go with the Flow algorithms, and dozens of illustrations. The book and bound-in CD-ROM contain hundreds of NCLEX®-style questions—including alternate-format questions—with answers and rationales.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Loretta L. White , DNS (Indiana State University)
Description: This is one in a series of books designed to provide a quick review of essential topics for nursing students, in this case anatomy and physiology. The information is presented uniquely in a two column format of key facts paired with concise information.
Purpose: According to the author, the purpose is to provide students a straightforward outline for study and review of anatomy and physiology. The ever expanding volume of foundational material thrust upon students certainly makes this a worthwhile endeavor. This book clearly meets that objective.
Audience: The author states the book is written primarily for prelicensure registered nurses but would also be useful for any licensed nurse who wants a review of anatomy and physiology. The brief and succinct presentation of the material presupposes that the student has already studied anatomy and physiology. Therefore, this book would serve the advanced prelicensure and graduate student very well for study and review. The author, a family nurse practitioner and nurse educator, is in a unique position to understand what is both useful to and needed by nursing students.
Features: The book provides the minimum and most pertinent information for each body system. That, along with the two column layout, makes it uniquely suited for student review. The illustrations are also limited to only those that will complement the material. Although there are no photographs, they do not appear to be necessary for understanding the content.
Assessment: The few pages devoted to each anatomy and physiology concept must, by necessity, contain only the most succinct information for the student. In that sense this book provides a comprehensive and time-saving way for the busy nursing student to review and prepare foundation material necessary for successful completion of a nursing program. Few review books offer these unique features. I would certainly recommend this to students as well as practicing nurses.
