Released at the same time as Patrice/Pizzazz/Posh -- a compilation of Rushen's first, second, and third Elektra albums -- this set from the U.K.'s Edsel label bundles her fourth and fifth albums for the same label. One of the best early-'80s R&B albums, Straight from the Heart boasts the Top Five R&B single "Forget Me Nots," along with Rushen's best mix of mellow and upbeat material, including the quiet storm classics "Where There Is Love" and "Remind Me," as well as the instrumental club favorite "Number One." 1984's Now contains a pair of singles -- "Feels So Real (Won't Let Go)" and "Get Off (You Fascinate Me)" -- that were, respectively, minor and moderate hits. With the exception of one cut (the Byron Clark mix of "I Was Tired of Being Alone" instead of the single version of "Breakout!"), the bonus tracks appended to Straight from the Heart are the same as the ones on Rhino's 1996 reissue. Four cuts from 12" releases are added to Now, which had been reissued straight-up by Wounded Bird in 2003.
