Strait Up [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Jon Wiederhorn
Lynn Strait was one of those stars that burned too bright and flared out before its time. The lead singer of Snot drank too much, took drugs, hung with porn stars, had the word "Insecure" tattooed across his abdomen, and lived for mischief. He died in a car accident on December 11, 1998, but not before forming many tight bonds with members of various alternative and metal bands. In tribute to the fallen rocker, his ex-bandmates have teamed up with a batch of vocalists who remember Strait fondly and recorded Strait Up, an eclectic batch of heartfelt songs that run the gamut from yearning and soulful "Angel's Son" featuring Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust to full-on ...

In tribute to the fallen rocker, his ex-bandmates have teamed up with a batch of vocalists who remember Strait fondly and recorded Strait Up, an eclectic batch of heartfelt songs that run the gamut from yearning and soulful "Angel's Son" featuring Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust to full-on noise "Starlit Eyes" featuring Serj Tankian of System of a Down. To a large extent, the singers dictate the tone of the songs: "Take It Back," which features Korn's Jonathan Davis, is menacing and paranoid; "Catch a Spirit," starring Soulfly's Max Cavalera, is tribal and punchy; and "Reaching Out" is filled with hooks courtesy of Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath. Also contributing to the disc are Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit, Brandon Boyd of Incubus, Corey Taylor from Slipknot, and Strait himself on Snot's final recording "Absent" and the confessional spoken-word cut "Sad Air." Most of the songs are emotionally gripping and musically riveting, but it's the lyrics that make the most poignant statement, as each artist tries to come to terms with the death of a close friend.
All Music Guide - Steve Huey
After recording just one album, alternative metal combo Snot was effectively destroyed when lead singer Lynn Strait lost his life in a freeway accident on December 11, 1998. The band had seemed on the verge of stardom and at the time were completing the music for their second album. As a memorial to Strait, Snot eventually decided to release those tracks, with lyrics and guest vocals provided by a phalanx of stars from the alt-metal community. The resulting album, Strait Up, is a fitting tribute from Strait's peers and friends, featuring members of Limp Bizkit, Korn, Slipknot, Sevendust, hed p.e., Coal Chamber, Sugar Ray, System of a Down, Soulfly, and more. There are a few lackluster moments, but overall the outpouring of support and the sentiment of some of the lyrics are moving. Strait Up also features a remixed version of "Absent," the Strangelands soundtrack song that proved to be Strait's final recording with the band.

    THIS ALBUM JUST KICKS A@#!!!

This tribute to Lynn Strait is the best album out there. The appearences alone make it worth buying. With songs like ''Requiem'' feat. Corey from Slipknot and ''Catch a Spirit'' feat. Max from Soulfly, it just shows how awesome it can be. Buy it if you're a fan of Snot or the bands featured on the cd.
